Sony Confirms NTSC-J and NTSC-U PSOne Classics Hitting EU PSN

250°
154w ago - Today SCEE's Ross McGrath of the Sony PlayStation Store Team has confirmed that NTSC-J and NTSC-U PSOne Classics are being prepared to hit the European PSN Store.

To quote: I am very pleased to confirm that US and Japanese PSone emulations are being prepared for release on the SCEE PlayStation Stores.

While I cannot yet confirm dates or any of the titles in process at this time, there are a few that are already in process and you will start to see them publishing in the future.

What does this mean for you, the consumers?

Here are the key points:

• Publishers who own the rights to release PSone titles that were previously only available in the US and/or Japan will now be able to apply to have them released on the SCEE PlayStation Stores (providing they are rated by the appropriate ratings boards for each territory).

• All titles will be published 'as is', with either English or Japanese language game content where available.

• All titles will run at 60 Hz and you will need a 60 Hz capable display to play them properly.

This also means that if a PAL version of a title has been unable to pass QA in SCEE, but the NTSC version is already available on the PlayStation Store in SCEA or SCEJ, we can look at publishing...

The Polarity of Outland is Hitting PSN on June 14, 2011

50°
162w ago - Outland Lead Designer Aki Raula has announced this weekend that The Polarity of Outland is hitting PSN on June 14, 2011.

To quote: As we are now about to release Outland, I thought it would be nice to share some thoughts on developing the game, especially on its main feature, the "[Register or Login to view links]" polarity mechanic. Thinking about it almost two years later, it feels like we came about the concept easily and naturally.

At the very beginning I had an idea on creating an action adventure platforming game that would give the player similar emotions and encounters I experienced when playing some of my favorite platforming games in the 80's (Pitfall II, Jumpman Jr., Rick Dangerous etc. - see, I never had a NES).

Early versions of Outland had a guy jumping, shooting and sliding around in a jungle environment. We expanded that basic gameplay by adding a special spirit mode that made the character move faster and cause more damage.

Our spirit mode, which we called the "Flow" mode, was one where you turned from a normal guy into a superhero; blue energy surrounded you and you were nearly invincible. We toyed around different variations of the concept, from having an additional boost mode, to having Flow sources/springs in the levels...

New Super Stardust HD PS3 DLC: Impact Mode is Hitting PSN

200°
172w ago - SCEA Producer Daimion Pinnock has detailed some new Super Stardust HD PS3 DLC dubbed Impact Mode that is hitting PSN this Spring.

To quote: We'd like players around the world to know that we've created a new game mode for Super Stardust HD that'll be out on PSN this Spring - it's called the "Impact" mode.

We want to thank all the fans around the world for your continued support - it has made Super Stardust HD a top selling PSN exclusive and enabled us to keep creating new content for the game even now over three years after its release.

2008 saw the release of the "Solo Pack," offering new game modes such as Endless, Survival, Bomber and Time Attack. That was followed by the multiplayer "Team Pack" featuring split-screen co-op and deathmatch modes for up to 4 players.

Additionally, the game then broke new ground by becoming the first ever PlayStation 3 game to feature Trophies.

In 2010 we gave players the exciting option to experience the game in real 3D, one of the few of its kind as it creates 120 unique frames per second.

Now in 2011 with the new Impact mode add-on, Super Stardust HD continues to be the most comprehensive shooter experience available.

The Impact mode plays on and twists the game rules -...
