138w ago - Today Associate Producer Eric Miller at Redoubt has introduced PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour for the PS3 entertainment system via PlayStation Move.
To quote: Developing PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour has been great fun, with plenty of challenges involved as well as some perks such as being able to get direct access to the PDC for Character and Environment reference photography, access to top Darts manufacturers such as Harrows and Winmau and getting to meet Sid Waddell and John Gwynn - more on these guys later!
Of course, being one of the first PlayStation Move motion controller titles has made developing this game distinctly different from anything we've been involved with previously.
Unpacking the prototype units we received early in development and getting to play with it in the prototype environment that Sony provide caused quite a stir around the office, with everyone eventually coming over to have a quick go; of course, once we'd implemented it into Darts: Pro Tour they came back again to see how we'd done!
The PlayStation Move is such a natural fit for a Darts game, and it truly feels great to load up the latest build, stand up and fire off a 9-Darter (I've had a lot of practice!) to hear Sid and John exclaim about the spectacle!
141w ago - In what may be the most lame video thus far, YouTube user vakalokass has shared one of a Hello World for Sony's PS3 entertainment system today.
Why is it considered lame exactly? Well, for starters the PS3 has been hacked and running code that Sony doesn't approve of for a few weeks now via PS JailBreak- including full PlayStation 3 game backups.
147w ago - Today Krome Studios Senior Programmer Chris Fowler has shared an update on Blade Kitten for PS3, detailing artificial intelligence and physics in a 2D world, as follows:
Working on the PlayStation 3 has been wonderful. As this was my first project on the PS3, I was apprehensive at first about the new technology and how to use it as best we could. But now, I can honestly say I am a fan of the PS3.
Early in development, Blade Kitten was both a 3D and a 2D game and you could switch between them instantly -- you'd run through a section then it would transition to 2D. It didn't take us long to fall in love with the 2D version, so we focused all our efforts on making the 2D the fun game it is today.
From the start of our project, our goal as programmers was to give the designers all the power they needed to create the game that they wanted. Ideally, a level designer controls the player's progression and experience in each area of the game (enemy placement, special events, collectables, and so on). So rather than implement a boss character's attack moves myself, I would give the designers scripting tools to implement the boss themselves.
This proved to be one of the best decisions we made. For example, the level where Kit is running...
I didn't know much of the Edgar Wright-directed, Michael Cera-starring movie hitting later this summer. I had never read any of the comics by Bryan Lee O'Malley (though I'm rectifying that now).
All I know is, I played a game that took me back to my gaming childhood: 8-bit beat'em ups with brightly colored sprites, old-school music, and couch co-op.
The key thing to note: Scott Pilgrim vs The World is debuting exclusively on PlayStation Network, and that you'll be playing it in just about a month: August 10th.
You'll be seeing a lot more about Scott Pilgrim vs The World here on the PlayStation.Blog in the coming weeks, including updates from Comic-Con and a post directly from Anamanaguchi, the famed chiptune band who behind the game's sountrack.
