Capcom: No Trophy Support for Devil May Cry 4

50°
326w ago - A poster on Capcom Unity's Forums has received an answer to the question of whether Devil May Cry 4 and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be getting the trophy treatment and it is no. Capcom feels that DMC4 already has "its own little trophylike system" and the Puzzle Fighter team has moved on to other projects.

There is a tiny bit of good news though, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix may have trophies implemented, but it will depend on "what schedules look like and what Sony's requirements are."

The only real good news is future games from Capcom will all have trophies, as it has "been worked into CEI's developer contracts as a required deliverable." Have other publishers signed such a contract?

This is rather disappointing, but after a string of such reports, we are not surprised. We are just really hoping SSF2T HD Remix will have support.

Devil May Cry 5 on Capcom's mind, due to Devil May Cry 4 sales

50°
332w ago - Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him.

This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom's fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4's record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold.

It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying "We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available."

To quote Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi's words from last year: "Continuing the storyline is always possible. However, we do work under a corporate system, so unless Capcom gives us the green light to go ahead and continue on with releasing Devil May Cry 5, 6, 11, whatnot. It's totally up to them.

However, personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and...

347w ago - This week's charts, with data taken from February 7th, 2008, show Devil May Cry 4 debuting high in North America and the UK, while Dairantou Smash Brothers X continues to top software sales in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded.

This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

North America: 1. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo), 3. Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party Bundle (Konami), 3. Endless Ocean (Nintendo), 4. Carnival Games (Global Star), 5. Game Party (Midway).

Critical Reception: Capcom's Devil May Cry 4

100°
347w ago - This week's edition of the regular Critical Reception column examines online reaction to Devil May Cry 4 Capcom's action franchise sequel that "delivers polished, fiendish thrills that eclipse other games in the series, and almost all contemporaries in the genre," according to reviews.

After finding success on the PlayStation 2, Capcom's Devil May Cry franchise makes its multiplatform debut on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with Devil May Cry 4. This new entry notably replaces the series' standard and well-liked protagonist Dante with a new character named Nero, who possesses an entirely different array of weaponry and abilities.

Though Dante remains playable in portions of Devil May Cry 4, series fans have wondered if Nero would be as likeable a character as Dante, and have expressed concern over the resulting shift in gameplay technique. Critics have responded well to the change thus far, and average a score of 84 out of 100 at Metacritic.com.

Joe Juba at Game Informer rates Devil May Cry 4 at 9 out of 10, emphasizing that Nero is a good fit for the franchise. "I'll just get this out of the way: Nero is awesome," he assures. "Any reservations fans may have about the young upstart replacing Dante as the main hero will evaporate in the first hour of Devil May Cry 4."

Juba explains...

Capcom confirm Devil May Cry 4 demo due to hit PSN/XBL this Thursday

50°
349w ago - Capcom has confirmed that the demo of Devil May Cry 4 will hit X-Box Live and the PlayStation Network this Thursday. It should be on Xbox Live at 2am PST and between 2 and 3pm PST on the PlayStation Network should you care for the finer time details.

To quote: That's right kids, you heard it here first: The Devil May Cry 4 demo you've heard about will be up on XBox Live and PlayStation Network this Thursday, January 24, 2008. We're told to expect it up on XBox Live at 2am PST, and between 2 and 3pm PST on PlayStation Network.

Upside: this demo is actually fun.

Downside: While there will be plenty of devil-bringification and even a pretty sweet boss battle against this guy (boss battles are definitely a major highlight of the full game), it is just a demo, and only scratches the surface of the DMC4 fun. Even if I weren't shilling shamelessly for Capcom, I'd still have to say this is probably the best Devil May Cry ever.

Check it out Thursday, and read on for more details about the demo, and of course pick up the full game, available February 5th.

The demo introduces gamers to the gothic-inspired supernatural world of Devil May Cry 4, new protagonist Nero and the awesome power of his Devil Bringer. The demo consists of a sampling of sections from the full...
