92w ago - Following up on his previous update, today PS Vita homebrew developer wololo has announced that the PS Vita Half Byte Loader (VHBL) will arrive shortly after March 1, 2012 with details below.
To quote: "This has been a tough week for lots of you, coming to my blog everyday to see that no new information was available about the release of VHBL. Trust me, it's been a much tougher week for me, making sure things go according to my humble plan, coping with a few more issues than expected, and overall, taking all the insults about "being a faker" or "trying to boost my ego" without being able to say anything else than "please trust me".
Ok, let's reveal a few essential things here, starting with the bad news: The game used by Teck4′s exploit is not available on the US vita store. Blame Sony and their "275 out of 900 PSP games available for your vita" scheme for this, not us. Part of the waiting time was to see if Sony would add this game to the US store at some point. It is obviously compatible since it is available in other continents, so my guess is that this is a marketing or a legal decision.
95w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has confirmed several launch details today for Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus on the PlayStation Vita handheld console, as follows:
If you're a fan of ninja games, PS Vita won't leave you wanting - or waiting. The system's upcoming launch will be supported by two ninja-centric titles: Shinobido 2 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, and I spent some time with the latter this weekend. NGS+ is an updated version of an early PS3 title, which itself was an enhanced version of an original Xbox game that debuted back in 2004.
Despite some control choices which have clearly evolved over the past 8 years, the source material holds up pretty well in 2012.
Playing through the first few levels of the NGS+, memories from nearly a decade ago came flooding back to me: the placement of treasures, decapitating enemies with a single charged slash (hold down the triangle button to, um, execute), and the difficulty.
The Ninja Gaiden series resides firmly in the "tough, but fair" challenge department. When you die - and you will - it's usually not due to AI cheapness, but rather a mistimed block or a delayed dodge.
That doesn't mean the game can't get frustrating, but when you prevail, the frustration melts into delicious satisfaction. For those...
103w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared some new PlayStation Vita gameplay trailer video footage today as PS Vita takes San Francisco!
To quote: Yesterday, more than 60 members of the gaming press piled into our Vita Hill social club in San Francisco to go hands-on with a slew of updated PS Vita games.
The event showcased everything from Escape Plan, MotorStorm RC, Super Stardust Delta, and UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Army Corps of Hell, FIFA Soccer... even Plants vs. Zombies (now confirmed!) joined in on the fun.
It was a memorable night, and one you can recreate right now if you happen to live near the San Francisco Bay Area – just visit the Vita Hill social club and bring some friends (the club is free and open to the public through mid-February).
Expect to see these PS Vita social clubs expanding to new cities in the coming weeks. And a comprehensive PS Vita mall tour is currently rolling out across the country through December, so if you've been dying to play PS Vita right now, you're certainly not short on options!
