142w ago - Last week PS3 Firmware 3.60 was released, and as of today Sony has updated the platform authentication xi passphrase for PSN resulting in Custom Firmware users (via FckPSN and similar methods) being blocked, however, according to IRC reports a PlayStation 3 CFW patch update shouldn't be far off.
To quote from PSX-Scene (linked above): "We are expecting sporadic PSN maintenance from approx 9am-3pm PST Thursday 03/17/2011. We apologize for the inconvenience."
That message was the last thing that CFW users got to see today, later after the network was back up everyone found they been kicked off their PSN!
Sony has finally enabled the new v3.60 auth system which was found hiding in the new firmware they had released last week!
Finally, from IRC:

157w ago - Today Chris Hagedorn of the Sony PlayStation Rewards Team has revealed that Quests are being added to the PlayStation Rewards Program.
To quote: Since the launch of the PlayStation Rewards beta, members have been benefiting from doing the things they love to do on PlayStation and progressing towards Select, Pro and Legendary.
You may have even seen some of the members that have already reached a rewards tier showing off their status in the PlayStation.com forums or online via their exclusive PSN avatars.
When we announced the PlayStation Rewards program, we promised that it would continually be evolving. We have heard your feedback and today are excited to announce the addition of Quests to the program, which provide yet another fun way for members to participate and earn progress. Quests are PlayStation-related activities that you can complete to directly add to your progress meter.
For example, with Quests, users will earn progress for playing an eligible PlayStation Move game in the "Move It" quest, for watching PlayStation Network's PULSE in HD on their PS3 system in the "Check Your Pulse" quest, or for visiting the Central Plaza in PlayStation Home in the "No Place Like Home" quest.
Nine Quests will be released in the beta by tomorrow,...

To quote: Just a few weeks ago, we released Swords & Soldiers for the PlayStation Network, and the response has been overwhelming!
The strategic action gameplay is being enjoyed by lots of gamers, offline as well as online. With 3 unique factions, 30 levels of gameplay, customizable skirmishes, 3 highscore arcade challenges and local and online multiplayer modes, there's lots of game to enjoy.
Now there's a whole new way to enjoy Swords & Soldiers... because we've added PlayStation Move support in our latest patch! Just connect a PlayStation Move to your PlayStation 3 and you will be able to navigate the menus and gameplay using the Move's cursor function.
You can also mix control schemes on a single PS3 as well as face off against people online with different control schemes. So far we have been unable to find any advantage for one over the other, but if you find any, let us know!
Speaking of balance, we've also done a few small tweaks to the balance between the three factions. Most importantly, we've made the Vikings slightly stronger in the endgame and the...
175w ago - A few months back Sony updated their new Terms of Service to include "automatic updates or upgrades which may change your current operating system, cause a loss of data or content or cause a loss of functionalities or utilities" and with the recent PS3 Firmware 3.41 it appears Sony has added in Cinavia DRM Protection as an automatic PS3 download.
For those unaware, Cinavia DRM technology is an audio watermarking technology that takes aim at pirates, and those trying to playback movie downloads via their PlayStation 3 consoles, and is part of the content protection system included in Blu-ray Disc players.
According to the official site, the watermarking works by "comparing the source of the audio to the format in which a movie was released (ie theatrical or commercial disc), and if the watermarked audio source detects a difference, the movie will either be mute (but most likely not play at all)."
To quote on a temporary 'fix' from alexsaeed8 via YouTube:
Recently PS3 has come out with this new update that automatically...
