259w ago - Everyone is asking whether or not 2008 could be considered "the year of the PS3," and while it certainly closed the gap, the system still has a long ways to go from a sales perspective.
And while we're 100% certain the console will have the best exclusives in 2009 (do we really have to list those again?), this is a time for reflection. So...did the PS3 have the best software this year? Did the exclusives outstrip that of the competition?
As for the best games of the year, it had Grand Theft Auto IV, but there's no doubt that the driving software force in 2008 for the PS3 was Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Many will put this up against Gears of War 2 and GTAIV for their Game of the Year pick, and... well, the Wii doesn't even have games, does it?
Yeah. No, it doesn't. So it's a two-horse race for this year, and because most everything is multiplatform these days, maybe it's best to compare the PS3's "Big 3" against the 360's "Big 3."
Sure, stuff like GTAIV, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Call of Duty: World at War, Devil May Cry 4, Far Cry 2, Burnout Paradise, and Soul Calibur III are multi-console hits, and most all are almost identical between the PS3 and 360. So, about that big 3: the way I see it, it's MGS4, LBP and Resistance 2 versus...
259w ago - Merry Christmas, Japan! While the Western world grows fat on its own laziness (not to mention a massive amount of Christmas food) Japanese game stores remain open to sell five new great PS3 games.
What's that strange smell, you ask? That's our pure, unadulterated jealousy. We really want to play White Knight Chronicles. Here's the release list:
• No new releases
• No new releases
• Alone In The Dark
• Far Cry 2
• Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
• White Knight Chronicles
In case you're wondering, your PS3 is region free. So, yes, you can import White Knight Chronicles if you so wish. We're not sure if it's the sort of game that will get downloadable content, but if it does you'll have to get it from the Japanese PSN Store.
259w ago - This year brought many games with high profile ones such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Gears of War 2. It was not until late into the year we began to see more bigger titles coming out for the holidays.
It all started in early September with Spore, Crysis Warhead, and Rock Band 2. LucasArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed didn't quite impress its critics but sales were good enough.
With the surprise success of The Witcher; released back in 2007, Atari released a new version dubbed The Witcher: The Enhanced Edition with new features and bug-less. EA's highly anticipated MMORPG Warhammer Online: The Age of Reckoning was released in mid-September for those who were looking for a different online game to play besides Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and World of Warcraft.
September ending with Gearbox Software's realistic WWII first-person shooter Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway which was one of my favorite games for the year.
October was the big month for games. It seemed like every week had a big title coming out. Dead Space, the horror first-person shooter from EA hit the spot for those who enjoyed blasting monsters and watching their limbs explode.
Unlike your typical first-person shooter, Dead Space offered some innovative features that kept the game interesting...
