E3 2009: PS3 Debug Firmware 2.76 and 2.60 Leaked!

650°
286w ago - Well, it's not actually an E3 post but if Sony held an E3 for PS3 Devs they may have offered these, right?

Today two very nice guys (Garfield and another, whose nickname we will add if he wishes) have shared PS3 Debug/Test Firmware 2.76 and 2.60 with the resident PS3 Devs here- THANKS guys!!!

Unlike many PS3 Firmware updates that block access to certain folders and directories in dev_flash, 2.76 allows full read access to dev_flash, so you can access the PS1 and PS2 emu files, as well as all of the system sprx's, some self's, xml's and rco's.

We don't yet have the official 2.76 changelog, but below are some changes (excluding all the bugfixes) from 2.6:

[New Feature]
•HDD boot games and game data can now be deleted from the system software menu that appears when the PS button is pressed during the game. However, data currently in use by the game is, as before, not deletable.

[Specification Change]
•The keyboard function keys F17 - F24 are now reserved for the system. Thus, it will no longer be possible...

PS3 Firmware 2.70 Update Locks Up with PS2 Adapters?!

400°
295w ago - According to AltPlusF4.com (linked above), PS3 Firmware 2.70 is causing bricked systems. However, they are not bricked, just 'locked up' primarily due to certain brands of PS2 to PS3 USB adapters being plugged into the system.

So for now, simply do not use these adapters on the new firmware.

To quote: The PS3's 2.70 firmware is causing some havoc out there with reports of bricked systems. They're not bricked, do not reformat.

If you have certain brands of PS2 to PS3 USB adapters plugged into the system on boot you'll get a blank screen, no sound and won't be able to connect your controller (adapter controller AND PS3 wireless controllers).

If you get the firmware update installed fine and then plug in your adapter, you'll lock the system up and have to do a hard reset. The only solution to this issue right now is simple - unplug the adapter and don't use it for now.

We know of two adapters currently (there are likely more) that are causing faux-bricks: TAC and Sumoto.

This is affecting quite a few people that use older controllers/instruments for game such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band so you can bet they'll make enough noise for Sony to hear them. With any luck, it will be a simple fix that they can get out fast to users.
