Hands-on with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PlayStation 4

9w ago - Sony Online Content Producer Rhys Sutheran went hands-on today with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PlayStation 4.

To quote: Talion - Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's central character - is a man holding a grudge , not to mention a very large sword. Having had his family murdered by Sauron's armies, seeking vengeance on those who wronged him is set to become the driving force behind Monolith Games' forthcoming Lord of the Rings spin-off when it launches on 30th September 2014 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

In preparation, we got our hands on an early build of the game to put it through its paces. Here are just a few of the ways we found that Talion can wreak his revenge...

Choose your target

As Talion enters a new area, he can survey the land for Sauron's armies and check out which of his captains control the various sections of the map. If he's encountered one of them before - or managed to wring vital information from their spineless foot soldiers - he can check out their strengths and weaknesses, see where they can usually be found and start planning his attack.

Dominate the weak

In the thick of battle, Talion can grab a weakened enemy and use his wraith powers to dominate them, turning them to fight alongside the outnumbered...

Since the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek in 2009, people noticed just how much lens flares were synonymous with sci-fi. Carrying that baton forward, we decided to go full on J.J. Abrams crazy with on [Register or Login to view links].

Have a look at these beautiful things in our early concept art, seen just to the right of this paragraph.

Actually we were so inspired by J.J. Abrams' style of lens flares that we started talking about them all the time.

After many months of this, the inevitable abbreviations began, and what started as "J.J.Abrams style lens flares" soon became "J.J. Abrams flares" then "JAbramzFlares"...
 

Video: Sony on RiME for PS4: A Guide to the PlayStation 4 Trailer

9w ago - Sony's Tom Wallis posted up a video today showcasing RiME for PS4 complete with a guide to the PlayStation 4 trailer below.

To quote: Developer [Register or Login to view links] are sneaky. Currently hard at work on their upcoming adventure game, RiME, that didn't stop them cramming hundreds of tiny details into the latest trailer.

We cornered creative director, Raul Rubio Munarriz, and cracked out the thumb screws to bring you every hidden detail you almost certainly will have missed.





1. Stranded (0.21)

"In the beginning you are stranded on this island and have no purpose. You are on the island, you have left your home and you don't know why."

2. Helpful critters (0.23)

"But suddenly you'll see something that shouldn't be there. The animals around you are going to help to varying degrees, here you can see the seagulls flying in one direction - they'll try to act as a guide and circle points of interest to help you out."

"The boy wears a cape, and that's really significant - but I can't tell you everything, you'll have to play the game!"

New Warframe PS4 Update Out Today: UI, Pets, and Player Ships

9w ago - Digital Extremes Associate Producer Pat Kudirka announced that the new Warframe PS4 update is out today and features a new UI, pets and player ships.

Below are the details, to quote: We know you've been (not so) patiently waiting for this one, Tenno, but we know it's worth the wait! Our team has poured their heart and souls into this update and it shows. Update 14: The Mad Cephalon arrives today on PS4, and with it comes our most ambitious changes to date.

A complete overhaul to the player UI, the arrival of Kubrow companions, our Infested Breeding Grounds event, and the brand new player ship Liset round off our focus on the new-player experience. There's a lot of ground to cover, so let's get started!

Vor's Prize

While we can break down a lot of this update into smaller parts, at the center of it all is Vor's Prize, Warframe's first quest in the newly introduced quest system.

We've completely overhauled our tutorial to give players a better understanding of how to use Warframe powers, acquire some starter mods, and learn the basics of the game all while taking part in a pretty exciting showdown between you and the dangerous Captain Vor.

Video: Alienation on PS4: Pure Gameplay on PlayStation 4

9w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton shared a pure gameplay PS4 video today spotlighting Alienation on PlayStation 4 below.


To quote: On a personal level at least, one of the most pleasing reveals in our Gamescom press briefing last week was a first glimpse at Alienation, the new game from [Register or Login to view links] creator Housemarque.
