To quote: The application receives data from PC peripherals (mice, joysticks and keyboards) and sends checks to the PS3 via Bluetooth or USB. Other controls, such as gestures or voice are possible through the emulation of PC peripherals.

Changelog for v0.25:

  • The joystick now works / joysticks names are filled in gimx-config

ThatOtherDev PS3 Homebrew and Source Code Updates

700°
145w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer ThatOtherDev has released several updated builds and source code for his recent PS3 homebrew games followed by another [Register or Login to view links] update for those interested.

To quote from his page: Here are freshly compiled copies of everything I’ve ever released for PS3 since I began using PSL1GHT (with the exclusion of Avoidance which I’m just going to pretend I never ported).

Many of them have been updated but mostly in fairly trivial ways. The player turns to face the direction they are moving in Gambol, one of the levels in Swingball 2 has been remade, Goodbye World has been largely rewritten but should look and play the same as before, The Unmapped Forest has an added title screen, etc.

Hero City v0.5 PS3 Homebrew Game is Now Released

146w ago - Following up on his recent PlayStation 3 homebrew ports Cherophobe v1.0 and Winters End v1.0, this weekend ThatOtherDev has made available another Wii port for the PS3 entitled Hero City v0.5.

To quote: This is a PS3 port of my open world super hero game titled Hero City. It was originally made for Wii and features the Nintendomax mascot.

There are some minor ways in which I've improved the game but there are some graphical and performance problems and the player is now constrained by the more simplified collision system that was previously only used for the enemies which unfortunately means that you can't travel on top of buildings or water.

PS3 controls:

  • Left analog stick = Move
  • Right analog stick = Turn camera
  • X = Jump
  • O = Fly
  • Triangle and Square = Punch

Neo Tanks v0.2 PS3 Homebrew Game is Now Available

146w ago - Following up on the initial release, today PlayStation 3 developer ThatOtherDev has released a Windows port of the PS3 homebrew game entitled Neo Tanks version 0.2.

To quote: Here is a update/port/remake/whatever of Neo Tanks. It was originally made over 9000 years ago for Windows, eventually remade for PS3 with the leaked SDK, later ported as my first 3D Wii release and is now back on PS3 via PSL1GHT.

It's still pretty much a glorified screen saver and it actually performs worse then it's first PS3 version made with the leaked SDK and it's Wii counterpart (rendering polygons on screen seems to be rather slow with PSL1GHT).

PS3 controls:

  • Left analog stick = Move
  • Right analog stick = Turn camera
  • R1 = Shoot

Winters End v1.0 PS3 Homebrew Game is Now Available

146w ago - Following up on his Cherophobe v1.0 PS3 homebrew game, today PlayStation 3 developer ThatOtherDev has released a Christmas-themed PS3 game entitled Winters End version 1.0.

To quote: In Winters End you take control of a snow person that moves around collecting snow.

It was originally rushed together for Wii as an entry in the Drunken Coders 2010 Winter Competition in which the judges stated that it "Would have been drastically improved with the addition of some enemies to thwart what was otherwise a so-simple-it-got-dull-fast game. Great work and very smooth accelerometer controls." and ranked it as fifth place out of five entries.

Well this new PS3 port keeps that "so-simple-it-got-dull-fast" gameplay intact well removing the smooth motion controls along with the music and bringing that once flawless framerate down to choppy mess that could be compared to a slideshow.

So have fun with that!

PS3 controls:

  • Left analog stick = Move
  • Right analog stick = Turn camera
