Video: Need for Speed: The Run Unbuckles the Seatbelt on PS3

100°
179w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Rey Gutierrez has shared some video footage from this year's E3 Expo spotlighting Need for Speed: The Run on the PS3 entertainment system.

To quote: Sid, Jeff and I have this recurring debate on how to keep a gaming franchise fresh and new over multiple iterations. We've discussed everything from and removing the football from Madden to taking BioShock out of the deep blue sea (oh wait.)

These may sound like little more than preposterous game pitches, but with the latest iteration of Need for Speed, it seams like the dev team at EA eavesdropped on one of our many heated debates. Need for Speed: The Run takes the driver out of the car and into the underbelly of the city streets.

Executive Producer Jason Delong joined us on our E3 livestream and presented a radically different vision for Need for Speed – one in which you're not always behind the wheel.

I've always been a huge fan of all things fast, and Need for Speed has been a long time favorite racing franchise of mine, so when Jason walked us through The Run, I was skeptical at first – but by the end, I was sold on the newest Need for Speed.

Check out the video above for a full in-depth walk-through.

181w ago - Following up on his previous releases, today PlayStation 3 hacker d0zs has released two more PS3 homebrew applications dubbed Read_SFO and Read_SFO_with_Examples based off SFO4J (SFO Filereader in Java) by TiMESPLiNTER.

To quote: command line sfo reader (uses sfo4j's open source java classes converted to vb.net)

syntax: read_sfo

included a rough make_pkg port to batch with a couple other examples

i had a couple people ask me about modifying the order of operations for making a pkg to suite their own needs. there's nothing easier than editing a bat file, so i decided to take advantage of sfo4j's java sfo reader classes and make a quick exe that will spit out a requested value of a specified sfo file and use it in a rough make_pkg port to batch.

181w ago - Today PlayStation 3 hacker Slynk has posted on his new [Register or Login to view links] some basic PS3 NPDRM information alongside a PS3 IDA (Interactive Disassembler) Tutorial for developers.

Download: [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links]

Recently he has been working on some PS3 QA Flag developments, and below those interested can find both the PS3 IDA Tutorial and NPDRM details.

From his page: PS3 + IDA Tutorial

Extract the contents into your IDA folder. I don't take credit for these plugins and loaders.

Loading a File

There are two file types I'll teach you to load. SPU and ELF files.

SPU files can only loaded in IDA 32bit mode. When you load IDA choose "Go" and drag the file onto IDA. Make sure elf is highlighted at the top. In processor type, choose "IBM SPU Cell Processor: spu." Click set. Click OK. "Undefined or unknown...blabla" yes. You should be good...

Video: Rochard - The Gravity Bending Platform Puzzler for PSN

50°
181w ago - SCEE Manager James Gallagher has posted up a video trailer today for Rochard - the gravity bending platform puzzler heading exclusively to PSN.

To quote: Just next door to the gargantuan PlayStation booth here at [Register or Login to view links] is the SOE stand and, during a break from filming our live interviews, I popped over to take a look at an interesting little platformer called [Register or Login to view links], coming exclusively to PlayStation Store this summer.

I sat down with the game's producer for a guided playthrough and, while I figured out the buttons and got my brain around the gravity manipulation gameplay, he explained the general premise.

"You play John Rochard an astro-miner at a company called Sky Rig - we're calling him an everyday hero," he explained.

"The entire company has been down on its luck in terms of finding anything but they stumble upon an alien artefact and, after reporting it to HQ, they find themselves surrounded by space pirates trying to get their hands on it. John is trying to protect his friends and find out what this artefact is in the process."

Rochard is a 2D platformer with 3D graphics, kind of like [Register or Login to view links]'s...
