Rumor: New Microsoft Ad Deal is Why Hulu Blocked PlayStation 3?

400°
269w ago - As reported a few days ago, since last weekend Hulu started blocking PlayStation 3 owners from accessing content.

Speculation is now underway whether it's due to Hulu's recent [Register or Login to view links] change, or if a new partnership with Microsoft is behind the dreaded "This Video is Not Available on Your Platform" messages PS3 owners are currently seeing.

To quote: A more interesting theory is that Microsoft paid off Hulu to block the PS3. Rumors of Hulu coming to the Xbox 360 have been circulating ever since Netflix 'Watch Now' arrived on the console.

If in fact Microsoft was in negotiations with Hulu to offer the service through their hardware, it isn't hard to imagine one condition of the deal (sweetened with a big sack of shiny gold coins) being that Playstation 3 owners be blocked. (But then, see above re: nervous network execs.)

No matter what the truth is, once again the consumer loses out. Is it too much to ask for transparency when changes like this are made? Wouldn't it be refreshing if Hulu made clear why it is suddenly cutting off some users of its service?

Rumor: Analyst Predicts XBox 360 to get One Terabyte HDD

400°
270w ago - Gaming analyst Michael Pachter has briefly mentioned the days of a 1TB Project Natal 'new' Xbox 360.

He noted he does not see the timing of new releases and digital downloads being a function of anything other than hard drive sizes.

To quote: Industry analysts have identified the limited storage space of the current Xbox 360 range as a major feature holding the tech back right now, particularly with the rapid developments in movies and games on demand services via Xbox Live.

"I don't see the timing between new release and digital download being a function of anything other than hard drive sizes," analyst Michael Pachter told [Register or Login to view links].

"I think as soon as we have large hard drives - think the rumoured Project Natal 'new' Xbox 360 with a terabyte of storage in 2010 - we'll have day-and-date downloads."

Rumor: PS3 Slim to Be Further Stripped of Non-gaming Aspects

400°
270w ago - According to N4G poster Super_Secret (who [Register or Login to view links] last week that PS3 Firmware 2.80 would be released on Wednesday), the rumored PS3 Slim will arrive lacking some non-gaming features found in current PlayStation 3 console versions.

To quote: The support for other operating systems will be one such featured stripped, as well as other hardware changes, including the on/off switch in the back of the console.

Obviously only time will tell if Super_Secret is correct once again, however, it would make sense considering Sony has already docked features from the original 60GB PS3 in order to offer the current reduced price (and feature) revisions.

Rumor: Killzone 3 for PlayStation 3 is in Development

250°
270w ago - According to Dutch site PS3Hype, there was a small gaming event in Amsterdam, where they met with game studio developers in the Netherlands.

During this event, one of the developers from Guerrilla Games (Killzone 2) mentioned Killzone 3.

Then the [Register or Login to view links] (link now dead) asked someone close to Guerrilla Games about the co-op patch for Killzone 2 and this is what he said, to quote:

"They [Guerrilla Games] are really kicking themselves because of that. They have a handful of developers working on updates, and patches for Killzone 2, but I doubt we'll see co-op patch.

The problem is the seamless loading. Cross console synching seems to be an issue - but from what I gather the key developers of Killzone 2 are working on a new project."

They asked him if he was referring to Killzone 3, and he said:

"Ahh, well - I can't say for sure, but it seems very likely. They have a team working on writing up algorithms, and modifying the Killzone 2 engine, and a select few working on a story. It hasn't been confirmed but for now, we suspect that Guerrilla Games is indeed working on Killzone 3."

Rumor: Details on Sony's PlayStation Cloud Surface

50°
271w ago - According to shakedown1987 via GameTrailers (linked above), Sony has began training on their recently patented "PlayStation Cloud".

Apparently, PlayStation Cloud is similar to the social-media site Facebook. This application will update, in real-time, and show all your friends your latest trophy accomplishments, avatar changes, etc.

Furthermore, it seems Sony is looking to make some features of the service public, and is actively looking for current customer service employees to moderate the public arenas.

To quote: Someone from SCEA consumer services told me something interesting. I recently called Sony's consumer services to complain to them about the lack of features, hoping they would forward it to the right people.

The guy I talked to was like he had no idea if they are getting those features however he said that he has an orientation sometime next week for a new service with new features called PlayStation Cloud, he said that all he knows about it is what his manager had told him and that there will be something similar to FaceBook where you'll have a News Feed thing that will say all the things you've done or friends have done on PlayStation Network like...
