Miyamoto: Something was Missing from Last Zelda Game

200°
299w ago - Even though Twilight Princess was in development for years, in some ways, fans were disappointed. The game, while not even close to being a bad game, simply fell short of some expectations.

In a way, Shigeru Miyamoto feels the same way in that he feels as though "there was something missing" from the experience.

To quote: "That's something that I talk to the members of my development team about on a regular basis. What I've been saying to our development teams recently is that "Twilight Princess" was not a bad game, by any means. But, still, it felt like there was something missing.

And while, personally, I feel like "Super Mario Galaxy" was able to do some things that were very new and were very unique, at the same time, from another perspective, certain elements of it do feel somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design.

And so this is something I've been talking to both of those teams about. Of course, as is customary with Nintendo, it's very rare that we are able to announce any games until they're ready for release, but I can say that these are themes that both of those teams are taking into account and the hope is that for both of those franchises, when we do release the next installments of the "Zelda" [franchise]...

PlayStation 3 Could Be Sony's Last Console?

550°
300w ago - Things haven't been going over too well in the Sony camp since the launch of the PS3. While it sold faster than the PS2 in comparison to its launch, the PS3 has been a financial pain in Sony's side for the past two years.

The added state of the rest of the economy have finally culminated in Sony seeing 10% of their market share value drop rapidly. So what does this mean for the PS3?

In a story by rte (among many others) Sony's operating profits are expected to drop by an inexcusable 65%. Competition has been stiff. And even though many reporters blame the Wii, it's actually Microsoft's Xbox 360 that has been eating into Sony's gaming sales.

It wasn't the Wii that the PS3 lost Devil May Cry's exclusivity to, nor was it the Wii that gave gamers an alternative for games like BioShock, Eternal Sonata, Unreal Tournament 3 and Fatal Inertia. Said games helped give Microsoft an edge in giving gamers a cheaper console option for the same gaming titles.

It also wasn't the Nintendo Wii that stiffened sales for the PS3 so much as it was the Xbox 360 preventing the PS3 from selling the way it could have. This is not to say that Sony would have gained any ground against Nintendo's ferocious little Wii had the 360...

50°
301w ago - Community Relations Manager for Insomniac Games James Stevenson has made available the latest Resistance 2 'Last Hours' Trailer via GameTrailers today.

To quote: As development on the game is wrapping up in here in Burbank, and the last few bugs are hunted down and squashed, we wanted to make an announcement we're very excited about. Since Resistance: Fall of Man, one of the biggest feature requests for the game was that we implemented split-screen online play.

We are happy to announce that Resistance 2 will feature 2-player split-screen play for both competitive play as well as our 8-player online co-op campaign! Now you won't have to stop leveling up your medic just because your friend is over!

In addition - we recently announced the contents of our collector's edition. Many of you wrote in asking for the bonus disc to be a Blu-Ray instead of a DVD. We can also announce that the Bonus Disc will now indeed be a Blu-Ray disc, bringing almost all of the special features to you in High-Definition.

We are excited to play you guys online during the public beta in the coming weeks, as well as when the game releases on November 4th.

If you have questions or comments, please post below. Bryan Intihar and I...

Square Enix Reveals Mole-Heavy Last Remnant Gameplay

50°
301w ago - Forget everything you may or may not know about Square Enix's The Last Remnant. Forget about how it's the latest and greatest 360 RPG from Japan, and how it uses Unreal Engine 3 for its graphics, and how it's coming out in about a month (PS3 owners will have to wait longer).

No, the real story behind this game, the one that has been dreadfully underreported on so far, is that you use this mole-like thing to help you dig for weapon-building material. Look out, Western developers!

"Mr. Diggs" might sound like the name of some minor-league baseball team's mascot, but he's actually a helpful armored mole-like thingie who aids the hero Rush and his friends in gathering item creation material. Sending him out to specially marked points on the game costs you D-ACT (digging action?) points, but will likely result in material you can bring over to the nearest customization shop and use to enhance or create weapons.

Digging operations may randomly produce huge payoffs, or may result in "accidents" of varying types -- sometimes they'll be the happy kind that replenish D-ACT or repel monsters, sometimes they'll result in monsters swarming over you. That's how things go in Remnant-land.

Perhaps more interesting then TLR's mole-oriented weapon system is its command-based battles, which are...
