SCEE Boss Not Sure if PS3 Will Last its 10-Year Lifespan

250°
290w ago - One of Sony's main arguments to defend against the Xbox 360 is the PlayStation 3's longevity. They once even said that the console is future-proof, and will last longer than the PS2 will.

But now, even SCEE prez David Reeves isn't sure the console will go completely through its supposed 10-year lifespan, saying:

The competition will have new models on the market by the end of the PS3. I have no doubt and we'll have to be fast on our feet... I don't know whether the PS3 lifespan will be eight, nine or ten years.

He does add though, that the PlayStation 4 is not "on the horizon" yet. And it really shouldn't be - even Microsoft's Robbie Bachexpects this generation to last longer than previous ones.

Why PS3 Owners Should Want Star Ocean: The Last Hope

100°
291w ago - While Halo Wars clearly wasn't up to the task of battling Killzone 2 for exclusive superiority in the first part of 2009, there's another Xbox 360 exclusive that PlayStation 3 owners should want: Square-Enix's Star Ocean: The Last Hope.

Now, I'm well aware many really have it in for the veteran RPG publisher right about now, and that's perfectly understandable. We may get Final Fantasy Versus XIII as a PS3 exclusive some time in 2047 but until then, the days of Square games only on PlayStation consoles are over.

Personally, I don't have even the slightest issue with that; I remain mostly convinced the multi-DVD production of Final Fantasy XIII won't be as good as the Blu-Ray production of the game on the PS3, especially considering the White Engine was specifically designed for Sony's machine.

At the same time, I think it's great that Square-Enix has expanded their anticipatory fanbase by finally making a major FF release available to more gamers around the world. The more people that get to play great games, the better it is for our industry; plain and simple.

Therefore, I don't really have any personal vendetta against Square-Enix. I believe they haven't been able to live up to the Squaresoft glory days (and I doubt I'm the only one), but I can accept that...what irks me no...

Resident Evil 5 for PS3: Next-Gen Graphics, Last-Gen Game Play

500°
291w ago - By now, many of you have played the Resident Evil 5 Demo. It's apparent to most the demo has outstanding graphics; truly next generation graphics (current gen).

It's hard not to think why Capcom would deliver on outstanding graphics, but deliver a horrendous game play. Sure this was acceptable last generation for various reasons. Take a look at what I mean.

When Resident Evil first came out you could not run and shoot at the same time but back then the game play was forgiving because the monsters were slow and you can literally run around them. Just seeing Resident Evil was so amazing that you just wanted to play it and get out of Raccoon city.

Everyone is talking about how Resident Evil is not supposed to be a Run-And-Gun; Capcom is trying to keep it original. If Capcom was truly trying to keep it original, what's up with RE4&5? Why the major change with the camera and why the change of zombies?

If Capcom was trying to keep it original, they never would of change anything. They are trying to bring new people to the series, and by this, they will need a serious overhaul. They succeeded in graphics, unfortunately, only graphics and not game play.

It's 2009 and certain things in game play these days are not as forgivable. What I'm trying to point out is that...
