Video: Starhawk: How to Create an Epic Soundtrack for PS3

103w ago - Starhawk Score Producer Matt Levine has posted up a video today spotlighting how to create an epic soundtrack for PS3 titles.

To quote: When Lightbox Interactive's President Dylan Jobe came to us to discuss the musical score for Starhawk, he had one of the best quotes I've ever heard from a game director:

"The music should not simulate combat; it should remind you what you're fighting for."

It is rare for so many things to come together on a project, but Starhawk has proven to be a perfect storm for creating a truly inspirational score. With a great story, a visionary developer, a brilliant composer, The Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, and a fantastic collection of soloists, we knew that this score would be something really special.

Chris Lennertz's score is bursting with character and memorable themes. Lyrical melodies soar through the orchestra, juxtaposed against feral percussion, gritty guitars, ethnic vocals and an eclectic mix of exotic wind instruments, each contributing to a score that is as memorable as it is unique.

At its core, the story is a classic western tale of two brothers torn apart by a tragic event....

Video: See PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale in Action on PS3

103w ago - SuperBot Entertainment Game Director Omar Kendall has shared a video today showcasing PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale in action on the PS3 entertainment system!

To quote: Today marks a special day for us here at SuperBot Entertainment, as we finally get to share our game with the world! PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale existed as an idea in the hearts of gamers way before SuperBot got around to making it, and the expectations of the fans are really what drive us.

This game is a labor of love, and we're excited to be able to finally show it - learn more in our new video interview above.

So what is PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale? First and foremost, it's a celebration of a storied history of great characters and rich worlds brought together in one game.

And for us, there's no better way to celebrate than by creating an experience that players can sit around one screen and enjoy together.

There are probably a few types of games that can be enjoyed by four players simultaneously, but for us at SuperBot, a brawler was the obvious choice for one really good reason: the developers here at SuperBot really like fighting games

Video: Dishonored Preview: Cloak and Dagger for PlayStation 3

103w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has posted up a Cloak and Dagger video preview today of the upcoming PlayStation 3 title Dishonored for fans below.

To quote: Some games have problems with bugs, but this game has trouble with rats. Big, evil ones that prowl in packs and can rend a man's flesh from his screaming bones.

But killer rats are the least of your worries in the dark world of Dishonored, an imaginative action-adventure from Arkane Studios and Bethesda coming to PS3 later this year.

The game nimbly blends inspirations from a pantheon of modern classics: The oppressive atmosphere and paranoid politicking of BioShock, the graceful bloodletting of Assassin's Creed, the murky morality of Deus Ex, the stealth and shadow of Thief.

This is a game about skulking in dark places, eavesdropping on secret conversations, setting up the perfect ambush and beating a hasty retreat.

You play as Corvo, an elite royal bodyguard wrongly accused of assassinating the Empress of Dunwall. Locked in a prison and left to rot, you're sprung by a shadowy benefactor and set loose to claim your revenge in whatever manner you see fit.

Though Corvo is a convincing protagonist the...

CCP Reveals How Dynamic Battlefields Take Shape in Dust 514

103w ago - Today CCP Community Manager CmdrWang has revealed how dynamic battlefields take shape in Dust 514 for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: In traditional or mainstream FPS games, the mission area, i.e. the layout of objectives, structures, and spawn locations, are fairly static, thus making missions predictable after playing them a few times.

This is not the case in DUST 514. Because of its sandbox nature, we want to give players the freedom to change the battlefield through choices and this is where the "dynamic" part of the battlefields will come from.

This means that battlefields in DUST 514 could change based on the actions that players make - from innocuous actions such as changing one's character fitting before a deployment, all the way up to decisions made light years away in a player owned corporate board room.

However, giving players a big sandbox to play in does not simply mean throwing a bunch of random choices at them and say, "go." For players to experience the uniquely emergent gameplay offered by the EVE Online universe, the freedom that these choices offer must be handled in a meaningful manner.

To illustrate this, we will be looking at how battlefields in DUST 514 are...
