GTA IV has SIXAXIS Controls; Mandatory HDD Install Confirmed

100°
348w ago - According to 1UP editor Andrew Pfister, the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV contains optional SIXAXIS controls for the bike, chopper and boat vehicles.

With games like Lair, some of us have grown to dislike the SIXAXIS motion sensing controls, but it's still nice to have as an optional feature.

Moving on, Pfister revealed that the PS3 version of the game does require a certain amount of data to be installed on the HDD. Interestingly, Pfister said the installation process takes around 5 minutes. That long to install 3340KB of data?

Seems like you may actually need more free space on that HDD, but given the install time, GTA IV most likely won't take up as much space as other games like DMC 4.

348w ago - According to a Sony rep, PS3 Firmware 2.30 (that will accompany the launch of the new PlayStation Store) will not contain PlayStation Home despite what rumors suggest.

Despite what some rumour mongers would like for you to believe, no, Home is NOT a part of this update.

And so the wait continues...

Confirmed: PlayStation Store Redesign Coming In April

300°
354w ago - The PlayStation Store will be receiving a makeover this April, according to SCEA's director of product development John Hight.

Hight notes that numerous changes will be made to the client interface of the store, based largely on customer feedback. Expect a more clean-cut, simplified look.

We give them a lot of feedback based on how our customers are reacting to things, and I think you will see a pretty big change in the PlayStation Network in the early part of April, where we roll out some new interface stuff largely based on customer feedback.

Simplification, cutting down on the number of mouse clicks, making it easier to find stuff that you want to find... that's kind of an outgrowth of us having more content now, so we have to make sure that you can get at it easily.

On a side note, Hight mentioned that we could see Japanese PSOne titles on PSN in the near future, similar to how Nintendo offers foreign games through its Wii Virtual Console service.

PSW: Konami rep confirmed MGS 4 demo may hit in February

50°
360w ago - Update: I e-mailed the editor of PSW and asked him to confirm that this is true, and he replied that a Konami Rep confirmed that the build they played will be on PSN sometime in relation to the games release. If the game stays on track as Konami has said so far then it should arrive around Feb as the magazine states.

A journalist decided to e-mail the PSW magazine editor who indicated that a MGS 4 demo will hit PSN next month. The editor replied by stating that at the time of writing the article a Konami rep told PSW that the demo they played in the office would be appearing on the PSN store.

However the release of the demo could depend on the game's actual final sale date but February is very possible.

To quote: At the time of writing the article a Konami rep told us a demo, the demo we played in our office for the magazine article, would be on the PSN Store.

It's finished, we played it, so something should be appearing this month. It could all depend on the game's final on sale date, if it has moved to May then a demo could appear later, possibly February.

363w ago - Following reports of the service being mentioned in firmware code, it looks like the popular voice-over-IP service known as Skype is indeed coming to PSP. Sony's official CES 2008 page states the following:

Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system.

No word on when Skype is coming to PSP, but we should hear more on this very anticipated functionality soon.
