Gears of War 2 Interview - New Map Announced!

100°
317w ago - Game Rumor recently had the chance to talk with Mark Thompson, an engine programmer over at Epic Games. The full interview will be posted later but for now here are some new interesting multiplayer details we learned from our time over at Epic.

-COG and Locust will each have 12 character models (7 each in Gears 1)

-A new map announced, "Dusk" puts players in a smaller, Raven Down style map with locust/cog battles in the distance scenery.

- New flamethrower has a "fuel meter" instead of ammo clips like in other guns, and will jam if continually fired for an extended amount of time.

- Hammer of Dawn will have only 3 charges until it "burns out". A 4th charge is possible, but it will cause the weapon to explode killing the character and hopefully enemies close by.

- Subway's trains movement can be turned on / off with a switch. Described as being "the hardest aspect to program yet!"

- A new gametype "Wanted" pits 9 Locusts on 1 COG or 9 COG on 1 Locust. This modified version of Juggernaut has a clock for each player counting how long each player is the wanted. The wanted can only be killed with execution style rules.

- Boomshot has been modified to hold 3 ammo. Each individual rocket has been weakened, however, if...

Call Of Duty 5 Announced

50°
320w ago - Hot on the tail of news that Grand Theft Auto 4 just became the bestselling entertainment launch of all time, ever, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, competing publisher Activision has stepped up and announced that they'll be launching Call of Duty 5 in fall of this year.

Aaand no one heard them because they were too busy killing Albanian loan sharks and chasing hookers through Liberty City. But, once people get bored of GTA4 (read: never), I'm sure they'll be itching for some good old fashioned FPS action.

And those who don't own an XBOX or a PS3 won't be left hanging because it'll be coming out for PC, Wii, PS2 and DS also. (But COD3 pretty much sucked for the Wii, so I don't know if that's really good news).

Activision's CEO has also said that it'll be set in a "new military theatre." A more urban setting reminiscent of a large northeastern metropolis, perhaps?

Gingerbread Studios Announces The Protector

50°
320w ago - Indiana Jones made archaeology cool. Substitute Nazis for terrorists, throw in a dash of Uncharted and Resident Evil, and you have something that newly formed Polish developer Gingerbread Studios hopes you'll find even cooler.

The Protector, announced Friday for the Xbox 360, puts players in the role of British mercenary Johnathon Kane, hired to protect U.S. archaeologist Jennifer Guile. Guile is the only one who knows where to find a lost Aztec artifact of terrible power, making her a prime target for the terrorist organization Scarlet Vengeance, which has apparently cornered the market on artifacts of terrible power.

According to the developer, the release promises "searing, tactical shooting action" for Kane and "tense stealth sections" for Jennifer, with other promised features including a strong physics engine, cover system, and destructible environments.

Gingerbread promises that the enemies, which range from the usual elite terrorist forces to mythical Aztec creatures, will intelligently take cover while utilizing realistic line of sight and hearing.

The Protector is still early in its development, but Gingerbread says to expect John and Jennifer to make their Xbox 360 debut in 2009.

Valhalla Knights 2 Announced for PSP

50°
322w ago - In a press release sent out today announcing a partnership between Marvelous Entertainment and XSEED Games, Valhalla Knights 2 was officially announced and scheduled for a fall 2008 release. This is the first title that will be published and distributed by the newly formed partnership.

Valhalla Knights 2 is the sequel to the original Valhalla Knights for Sony's portable system. Valhalla Knights 2 will, according to the press release, add new job classes, races, weapons, spells and other items for RPG enthusiasts. Gamers will be able to experience six-on-six tactical battles during gameplay and the title will also feature two-player ad-hoc support.

"Valhalla Knights 2 will carry on the legacy its predecessor established as a beloved game in any RPG player's library," says Ken Berry, marketing and sales at XSEED.

"We appreciate this game being the first in our co-publishing partnership with Marvelous Entertainment as it will help to set the quality standard high for all future games coming out of this deal."

The press release ends by noting that more games -- along with additional details on Valhalla Knights 2 -- will be announced in the near future.
