Video: Scott Rohde Answers PS Vita Questions from E3 2011

300°
180w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has made available an E3 2011 video today featuring Scott Rohde answering some common PS Vita questions from fans.

To quote: The most talked-about PlayStation product out of E3 was, and continues to be, PS Vita. Yes, the hardware is impressive - especially at the starting price of $249 dollars.

But - as is always the case - it's all about the games. Fortunately, Vita looks set to launch with a plethora of big names and innovative indie games.

Who's responsible for ensuring an awesome PS Vita launch lineup? People like Scott Rohde, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Studios Product Development at SCEA.

In our E3 interview, Scott Rohde talks about the making of Vita and the flexibility of the platform. It's safe to say that fans of traditional button-and-analog-stick controls will be satisfied, all while incorporating innovative new interfaces like the back touch panel.

I've got to say, I love working for a company where a senior vice president doesn't wear a suit. Like, ever.

From his site: New graphics for my latest console: PlayStation 3! Rules of the game are the same as other ports: frog can jump forward, left, right (not backward) and the goal is to jump over all the leaf of the level.

There are 10 levels, out of 100 random ones

Controls:

• Move the frog with arrow keys
• Restart level with Circle button

Scogger 0.1 for PS3 Changelog:

• First and last version
• New fantastic graphics in HD thanks to SpriteAttack!

Thanks to SDL library I ported the original game on PC in a breeze, then I started changing every single image, add some sort of animation and writing some sort of animation code, tweaking with frames, rewrite menu code, polishing the trash code... so I did 90% of the work PC side. Porting it over on PS3 was (almost) straightforward.

181w ago - Today Kotaku (linked above) and [Register or Login to view links] report that both Metal Gear and Zone of the Enders HD Collections are now slated to hit Sony's PS3 entertainment system.

To quote: Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders Return With HD Collections Konami announced today that two of its most popular franchises, Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders, will be getting HD compilation re-releases on the PlayStation 3 and, for the first time, will also see action on the Xbox 360.

The Metal Gear pack, due in November, will include Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. These games will now feature HD graphics, new art, remastered audio and achievements.

The Zone of the Enders collection, meanwhile, includes Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders 2 (and will boast the same improved/added features as the MGS pack). It'll be out in 2012.

Both packs will also boast a similar feature to the recently-unveiled PSP Remaster series, which Konami is calling "Transfarring". This will allow users to, when playing a game like Peace Walker that will be available on both handheld and console, transfer their saves between the two.

The company also unveiled plans for a Silent Hill HD collection....

183w ago - Your favorite PSP games are coming soon to PlayStation 3. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has announced the "PSP Remaster" title series this morning, in which Sony and other publishers will remaster their best PSP titles for PlayStation 3 on blu-ray disc.

"PSP Remaster" titles will deliver high-definition graphics, SIXAXIS and DualShock 3 compatibility, new add-on content and/or stereoscopic 3D support. Save data from the original PSP version can be used in the "PSP Remaster" version. Ad-hoc gameplay is supported with the "adhoc party for PlayStation Portable" PlayStation 3 application.

The first "PSP Remaster" title will debut in Japan with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. from Capcom. The PlayStation 3 version is "more gorgeous and vibrant than ever" and will "deliver dynamic gameplay when played on the large TV screens." A fitting first release, as the game has already sold over 4.5 million units in the country.

Sony Computer Entertainment "will deploy various measures to enhance the software title line-up for the PS3 system." The rumored God of War: Portable Collection from last week is likely part of this lineup. The only question left unanswered is "what's next?" Final Fantasy? Clank and Daxter? With E3 in just over two weeks, we'll soon find out.
