290w ago - Hot on the tail of news that Grand Theft Auto 4 just became the bestselling entertainment launch of all time, ever, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, competing publisher Activision has stepped up and announced that they'll be launching Call of Duty 5 in fall of this year.
Aaand no one heard them because they were too busy killing Albanian loan sharks and chasing hookers through Liberty City. But, once people get bored of GTA4 (read: never), I'm sure they'll be itching for some good old fashioned FPS action.
And those who don't own an XBOX or a PS3 won't be left hanging because it'll be coming out for PC, Wii, PS2 and DS also. (But COD3 pretty much sucked for the Wii, so I don't know if that's really good news).
Activision's CEO has also said that it'll be set in a "new military theatre." A more urban setting reminiscent of a large northeastern metropolis, perhaps?
290w ago - Indiana Jones made archaeology cool. Substitute Nazis for terrorists, throw in a dash of Uncharted and Resident Evil, and you have something that newly formed Polish developer Gingerbread Studios hopes you'll find even cooler.
The Protector, announced Friday for the Xbox 360, puts players in the role of British mercenary Johnathon Kane, hired to protect U.S. archaeologist Jennifer Guile. Guile is the only one who knows where to find a lost Aztec artifact of terrible power, making her a prime target for the terrorist organization Scarlet Vengeance, which has apparently cornered the market on artifacts of terrible power.
According to the developer, the release promises "searing, tactical shooting action" for Kane and "tense stealth sections" for Jennifer, with other promised features including a strong physics engine, cover system, and destructible environments.
Gingerbread promises that the enemies, which range from the usual elite terrorist forces to mythical Aztec creatures, will intelligently take cover while utilizing realistic line of sight and hearing.
The Protector is still early in its development, but Gingerbread says to expect John and Jennifer to make their Xbox 360 debut in 2009.
