325w ago - Taku Imasaki (Producer, SCEA) of the PS Blog writes today:

Hello Blog Readers and GT Fans! I enthusiastically return to the blog with very good news. Hitting on our promise to continue to evolve the GT series, a new update for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is NOW available. This update adds three new vehicles to the game's line-up, plus a number of gameplay and performance enhancements we think you'll be excited about. Here we go...

New Vehicles
All three vehicles and manufacturers have special ties to Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital. They will be added to their respective Dealership areas in GT5 Prologue.

GT by Citreon - The "GT by Citroen" concept car is the result of a groundbreaking collaboration between French automaker Citroen and Polyphony Digital. The formal debut of the vehicle took place yesterday at the Paris Motor Show, coinciding with the release of today's update to the game. A video of the "GT by Citroen" can be viewed in HD within Gran Turismo TV.

The two other new cars are the Ferrari California and the Lotus Evora. They are a lot of fun to drive. For a look at these sexy vehicles, check out the images (linked above).

The GT by Citroen is available for 1 Million credits;...

A Grand Update for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

100°
334w ago - Sony has revealed that on August 1st, Gran Turismo 5 prologue owners will be able to receive a great update. In addition to some Gran Turismo TV preparation, other gameplay enhancements will include fixes in penalty judgements, more tire choices and improved collision physis in online races.

To quote: On Friday, August 1st, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue owners will receive a significant update that will take their racing and automotive experience to a new level.

The heart of this update is a new line-up of exciting automotive programming for "Gran Turismo TV", our in-game automotive media channel. Gearheads will enjoy a host of new free and pay-per-view programming, including "Top Gear", UK's premier car entertainment program, and Japan's "Best Motoring" video magazine, dedicated to the pursuit of the pleasure of driving.

Whether you're in the mood to tour Ferrari's factory in Italy with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, or to be insulted by Jeremy Clarkson talking trash about your favorite cars, or even sitting down to watch some mad Japanese race drivers play 'car soccer', there is a variety of choices for all types of car fans. Gran Turismo TV is housed within Gran Turismo 5 Prologue so access and videos is all in-game!

Porches in Gran Turismo on PS3?

500°
345w ago - In an interview with OPM (Official Playstation Magazine) Kazunori Yamauchi (the head of Polyphony) claims that by the time Gran Turismo comes out, it will have all the major car manufacturers.

"I can't really go into detail at this point, but by the time GT5 comes out I think we'll have most - no, all of the major manufacturers." Yamauchi stated, and when asked about Porsches, he replied "Probably."

While its not confirmation, it does show Polyphony are trying to include every type of vehicle possible.

For those of you knew to the series, Porsches have been one of the major manufacturers NOT to be in a Gran Turismo game, so the prospect of being able to jump in a 911 turbo is enough to get many petrol heads salivating.

The game is due out mid 2009.

Gran Turismo sales breeze past 50 million

200°
346w ago - Sony says that its Gran Turismo racing series has notched up 50 million sales across all PlayStation formats (except PSP though) in ten years and precisely four months.

"Initially, Gran Turismo was an 'alternative' racing game, kind of an outsider in the genre," said series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Kaz to his mates: "And we made it thinking that it would be okay as long as it reached out to the select few who would agree with us. So this figure, 50 million units, is simply astounding. If you go to a game store and look for a particular package, and pay for it at the cash register, though the time may be very brief, it still takes at least three minutes or so."

Stay with him... "It's simply mind boggling and hard to believe that this has been repeated 50 million times all around the world in the last ten years. I would really like to thank all the fans who have supported the Gran Turismo series over the years, for all their passion and love of the game.

We'd like to continue making every effort to create cutting edge, high quality games, so that we don't disappoint anyone's expectations."

Gran Turismo to feature vehicle deformation in near future

50°
352w ago - Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has said in an interview that we can expect vehicle deformation "in the near future, very, very soon."

Apparently manufacturers weren't happy with the idea of vehicle deformation but now they're slowly coming around to it. It is unclear if deformation could make it in a GT 5 Prologue update or if it will appear in the full version of GT 5 which is apparently a year away.

To quote: "We've had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and, although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they're slowly coming around to it.

"We've still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon," he added.
