Is 2009 Really the Year of Sony's PlayStation 3 Console?

266w ago - If you ask just about any ill-informed PlayStation fanboy on any forum what Sony has in store for them in 2009, they will almost certainly reply to you with a list of games that looks a little like this:

€God of War III
€Heavy Rain
€Uncharted 2
€MAG
€inFamous
€Killzone 2
€Gran Turismo 5
€Quantum Theory

Then they would go about spouting first-party studios they have not heard from in a while, claiming €Team ICO€s unannounced project€.

How many of these games do you expect to see the light of day in 2009? Let€s take a look back over the years so far. In the past we have seen top-notch first-party exclusives such as LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 being delayed over and over again and third party games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 receiving similar delays, it is clear that it isn€t just Sony dropping the ball.

It is highly possible that many of these developers over-estimated their skills at programming, making a game from the ground up seemed on a system deemed by developers as €difficult to program for€.

First, let€s get these unannounced games out the way, if they are unannounced, the chances of them releasing any time within the next year are unlikely. It is still within possibility...

Sony's PlayStation 3: Both a Game Console And a Miracle Worker

400°
266w ago - The PS3 has been doing miraculous things. Wait, what? You thought that innocent looking black box sitting under televisions across the world was just a game console?

Most gamers take it for granted that Sony€s console allows us to play great games, movies, music, and surf the Web. Sony has made it abundantly clear this generation that the PS3 is the most useful €gaming media hub€ known to man.

However, the PS3 is making a real tangible difference to lives of many people and in that regard it€s on a roll.

The PS3 has truly come a long way since its initial blueprints and continues to amaze fans with its growth in every passing year. The PS3 has to be one of the most €under appreciated€ consoles in the media since the Dreamcast. Do they not see what the PS3 is doing right now?

Sony knew that they had the most powerful console this generation, but did they know the extent of its potential? The PS3 is over 10x more powerful than your average PC and this fact garnered the attention of scientists, who were looking for supercomputers to use for their €folding of a protein cell€ studies.

Stanford University, located in California State, has linked PS3s around the world via the Internet to harness the collective computing power of cell processors to speed up...

This at 600 Mhz and 110 Mhz." Check it out below!

Microsoft Sued Over Patents on XBox Console and Halo Games

50°
267w ago - Microsoft Corp., the world's largest software maker, should pay a New York company $90 million for using its inventions in the Xbox video-game system, a lawyer told a federal jury yesterday.

To quote: PalTalk Holdings Inc. says Halo games and the Xbox console on which they are played infringe two patents for inventions developed by MPath Interactive Inc. PalTalk bought the patents for less than $200,000, Microsoft lawyer David Pritikin said.

The trial in Marshall, Texas, centers on technology for ways to control interactive applications over multiple computers. MPath was "a pioneer in the online video industry in the area of real-time, multiplayer online games," PalTalk lawyer Max Tribble told the jury.

"Microsoft had many meetings with MPath regarding their technology, and Microsoft found the technology to be very valuable," he said.

Microsoft said it did review the inventions and chose a different path in developing its games. The technology is for an older dial-up method of communicating between computers and "the patents don't cover the way the Halo games work," Pritikin said.

Microsoft also is challenging the validity of the PalTalk patents and told the jury that, even if it agrees with PalTalk, "the patents aren't worth much, certainly not $90 million."
