220w ago - Several sites are reporting that Microsoft is planning to get rid of the Xbox 360 Elite, with only Limited Edition game-themed models coming with 120GB of storage.
The recession and lowered prices of the other SKU's have allegedly been contributing factors towards this change.
To quote: Necessity dictates that if you're an Xbox lover and fan of HD downloads, then the Xbox 360 Elite is the only way forward. But it seems that all is not well with the most expensive of Microsoft's hub, with reports emerging that the console is about to get a dose of the Red Rings of Death.
According to Electronista, the top end console is going to be killed off in its everyday incarnation, with only limited edition, game themed models coming with 120GB of on board storage.
Word is that the recession, coupled with knockdown prices for the Arcade and Pro versions, is causing the £230 console to pile up in stores the world over.
Microsoft is planning an Official announcement in the next fortnight, with those after more storage for XBLA and movie extras being offered bigger upgrade drives instead.
221w ago - The original Dirt was a hit across the board, which naturally means that Codemasters is hard at work on a sequel. Known quite simply as Dirt 2, this follow-up was unveiled by the English publisher at a press event last night in San Francisco.
During the presentation, the big theme that Codemasters was hammering on for this sequel was the idea of off-road racing with an extreme sports attitude. What does that mean, exactly?
The first game featured voice-over work by motocross legend Travis Pastrana, but this time around Codemasters is looking to go full tilt with the game's presentation.
A teaser video revealed a scene from the player's RV, the hub where you control all your career mode exploits, and it was a raucous collection of grime, half-naked women, and general insanity. That should serve as a good hint of what the overall attitude will be.
But of course, this is still a racing game, and gussying up the user interface will take you only so far. Thankfully, Codemasters revealed some intriguing information about the type of racing you'll be doing this time around. The biggest chunk of information they let out is the inclusion of stadium rally events.
They showed a gameplay video of a fictional stadium built around London's Battersea Power Station, with...
221w ago - Today Crediar has updated Preloader to v0.28 for the Nintendo Wii. For those not aware, Preloader 'replaces' the System Menu (it's not really replaced, its main.dol is just
renamed) with a simple loader allowing you to automatically load the Homebrew Channel, a .dol/.elf you installed via SD, and the System Menu.
• rewrote the hacks parser, it's more solid now and detects syntax errors much better
• added a new font
• optimized the menu layout
• you can now add unlimited offsets/value in one hack entry
• added beta version related code
• added a setting which allows to always turn you Wii off even when standby is enabled
• fixed that when shutting down from the System Menu, the Wii always got powered down instead of using the set shutdownmode.
• fixed a bug which prevented updating to a non beta version during beta testing
• fixed a bug in the System Menu hacks scrolling code
222w ago - As first announced earlier today, Media Molecule confirmed the long speculated rumors that the adorable SackBoy will be making his way onto the PlayStation Portable sometime this Fall.
Over the last several months and shortly before release of the PlayStation 3 version, there was an enormous amount of belief that these rumors were true, and finally they've come to fruition.
Sony declared that LittleBigPlanet will hit the PSP while offering new levels and the ability to play, create, and share with users much like its PS3 counterpart. It wasn't disclosed if cross-platform functionality would be included, but who are we kidding, it would be a no brainer.
If the PlayStation 3's DLC wasn't draining your wallets enough as is, we're sure the company has more content planned on the way for its Mini-SackBoy as well.
