238w ago - Typically, the "Big Three" console makers -Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony- decline to comment when purported photos of new hardware designs are leaked.
That wasn't the case last week, when Sony Computer Entertainment Europe flatly dismissed what looked like snapshots of a new 120GB slimline PlayStation 3.
"We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3," a rep told UK outlet CVG, appearing to put a stake in the heart of the matter.
However, all that changed this week when the Taiwanese law firm of Li Mo and Associates sent out letters to various gaming outlets demanding that photos of the PS3 Slimline be removed forthwith.
Sent on behalf of an unnamed client, the letter contains language that suggests the photos may be authentic and not a knockoff console like the much-mocked Vii.
The letter contains the following text:
As appointed by our client, we hereby inform you that the Web pages on your Web site (as attached hereto) contain some of our client's confidential documents and photos, which were highly possibly illegally released and posted.
We are investigating this violation and will bring all necessary...
239w ago - Rumors circulated the Internet recently regarding a supposedly leaked set of photos of Sony's "PS3 Slim."
Previous hardware choices on Sony's part, including the slimmer PS2 and the PSP-2000, would suggest that Sony would eventually create a slimmer version of its powerhouse hardware, but would it be so soon after the system's launch?
To quote: Today, we received word that a trustworthy US GameStop employee discussed the matter with a Sony merchandizing representative.
When the leaked photos were brought up in private conversation, the merchandizing representative was immediately surprised that the photos were "released already," but then hastily dismissed the subject when the rep realized that it was regarding a rumor.
Could this reaction indicate that the PS3 Slim is more real than we originally thought?
We certainly take this information with a grain of salt, but it at least enhances the possibility that a PS3 Slim will arrive sometime in the future.
239w ago - According to ComputerAndVideoGames (linked above), Sony knows nothing about the rumored pics of a new slim PS3 that are said to have leaked from a production line in a Chinese factory.
To quote: The shots show the matt black outer shell of a skinnier version of the console, complete with a slots for the Blu-ray disc drive, USB ports, and PS3 branding on the top and bottom (but not in the same Spider-Man-style font).
There's even a shot of the box, with all the PSN logos and a label indicating a 120GB internal hard drive.
Quite specifically Sony told us: "We don't know anything about the system in the photos."
