PS3 Slim Photos Spark Legal Action from Taiwanese Law Firm

400°
256w ago - Typically, the "Big Three" console makers -Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony- decline to comment when purported photos of new hardware designs are leaked.

That wasn't the case last week, when Sony Computer Entertainment Europe flatly dismissed what looked like snapshots of a new 120GB slimline PlayStation 3.

"We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3," a rep told UK outlet CVG, appearing to put a stake in the heart of the matter.

However, all that changed this week when the Taiwanese law firm of Li Mo and Associates sent out letters to various gaming outlets demanding that photos of the PS3 Slimline be removed forthwith.

Sent on behalf of an unnamed client, the letter contains language that suggests the photos may be authentic and not a knockoff console like the much-mocked Vii.

The letter contains the following text:

"Dear Sirs,

As appointed by our client, we hereby inform you that the Web pages on your Web site (as attached hereto) contain some of our client's confidential documents and photos, which were highly possibly illegally released and posted.

We are investigating this violation and will bring all necessary...

PS3 Slim and Original PlayStation 3 Size Comparison

550°
257w ago - A few days ago some alleged PS3 Slim images were leaked to the Internet via LevelUp.

Shortly following, IGN stated a GameStop Rep confirmed it.

Anyone who has seen the leaked images of the PS3 Slim has surely wondered how the size compares to the original PS3.

Today a new image has surfaced thanks to NeoGAF member RanoNL. The pic shows an original PS3 standing vertically, and along side it what appears to be a PS3 Slim standing vertically.

While we aren't sure of the validity or the origin of the image, it clearly shows that the PS3 Slim (if that is the same PS3 Slim as the leaked pics) is significantly smaller than the original PS3.

Taking a closer look at the image, it doesn't appear as though it has the PS3 logo on the bottom, so there is a chance this isn't the same PS3 Slim case as the one shown in the leaked pics.

For now, all anyone can do is speculate until Tuesday, June 2 at 11AM when the SCEA E3 Press Conference starts, and the PS3 Slim is finally...

IGN: GameStop Merchandising Rep Confirms PS3 Slim?

100°
257w ago - Rumors circulated the Internet recently regarding a supposedly leaked set of photos of Sony's "PS3 Slim."

Previous hardware choices on Sony's part, including the slimmer PS2 and the PSP-2000, would suggest that Sony would eventually create a slimmer version of its powerhouse hardware, but would it be so soon after the system's launch?

To quote: Today, we received word that a trustworthy US GameStop employee discussed the matter with a Sony merchandizing representative.

When the leaked photos were brought up in private conversation, the merchandizing representative was immediately surprised that the photos were "released already," but then hastily dismissed the subject when the rep realized that it was regarding a rumor.

Could this reaction indicate that the PS3 Slim is more real than we originally thought?

We certainly take this information with a grain of salt, but it at least enhances the possibility that a PS3 Slim will arrive sometime in the future.

Sony Knows Nothing About the Slim PS3 Redesign Pictures

400°
257w ago - According to ComputerAndVideoGames (linked above), Sony knows nothing about the rumored pics of a new slim PS3 that are said to have leaked from a production line in a Chinese factory.

To quote: The shots show the matt black outer shell of a skinnier version of the console, complete with a slots for the Blu-ray disc drive, USB ports, and PS3 branding on the top and bottom (but not in the same Spider-Man-style font).

There's even a shot of the box, with all the PSN logos and a label indicating a 120GB internal hard drive.

Quite specifically Sony told us: "We don't know anything about the system in the photos."

Sony: No Plans for a PS3 Slim Console Version Anytime Soon

200°
257w ago - Sony have point-blank denied online speculation that a slimline version of the PS3 could be on the way.

Rumors have been circling since yesterday that the platform holder might reveal a newly streamlined model at E3, in a similar vein to the popular PSone and 'PStwo' systems.

To quote: Speaking to UK website CVG, however, a spokesperson for the firm said that the company "doesn't have any plans" for a revision of the hardware at present.

While Sony have moved quickly to deny any PS3 hardware changes, the firm have been less quick to snuff out speculation pointing toward a new-look PSP handheld. More at E3 2009, perhaps?
