Capcom to Lean on Sony's PS3 for Software Sales

272w ago - The latest [Register or Login to view links] from Capcom revealed that they will be leaning on the PlayStation 3 in this fiscal year.

To quote: The third-party company expects to sell a combined 4.9 million software units with 10 new PlayStation 3 titles plan for the fiscal year of 2009-2010. This is way higher than the previous year in which the eight Capcom games on the PlayStation 3 sold a combined 1.75 million units.

In comparison, Capcom expects the Xbox 360 to sell 4.55 million units of software with 11 new titles during the same period. Despite having more new titles (14) than the other two the Nintendo Wii is only predicted to sell 2.20 million units, which seems a little low since Monster Hunter 3 should be released before March 31, 2010.

Sony also got the upper hand on the competition in the handheld market. Capcom expects to sell 2.45 million units of software on the PSP over the span of eight new titles. Capcom is only planning for the Nintendo DS to sell 2.1 million units despite releasing 29 new titles on it over the same period.

286w ago - Just two days ago Sony PSP hacker Dark_AleX [Register or Login to view links] LEDA: Legacy Software Loader BETA v0.1 for PSP.

For those who haven't been following, LEDA integrates into M33 Custom Firmware to let you run your old 1.0 and 1.5 kernel-based homebrew apps.

It also works on the PSP Slim, and today he has updated it to v0.2 with the following changes:

An update to improve compatibility. Still no perfect but this should run quite more homebrews than 0.1

Note: if you have plugins enabled, disable them before running installer. CFW Folder Blocker v1.0 in concrete is known to cause problems with leda installer.

LEDA: Legacy Software Loader BETA v0.1 for PSP Released!

286w ago - Sony PSP hacker Dark_AleX has released LEDA, the Legacy Software Loader today. LEDA integrates into M33 Custom Firmware to let you run your old 1.0 and 1.5 kernel-based homebrew apps. It also works on the PSP Slim.

From the ReadMe file:

Description: LEDA is a program that integrates into M33 custom firmwares to let some old 1.00/1.50 homebrew to run. To avoid waste of memory, leda is only loaded when necessary. Current compatibility is unknown as is still in beta. Although it may work on previous m33 versions, it has only be tested on 5.00 M33.

The development of LEDA doesn't mean that development of 1.50 kernel addon will be ceased. 1.50 addon is very easy to code, and thus it will still be coded for almost full 1.5 compatibility, but LEDA has some advantages over it.

Advantages:
- It works on slim too
- It doesn't need much flash space
- You don't need to care about which folder your homebrew is. LEDA first tries to load the homebrew program normally. If it works, then the homebrew is a 3.XX+ one, and leda terminates itself to not waste RAM. Otherwise, leda does some patches to load the 1.0/1.5 homebrew.
- Unlike 1.50...

Rumor: PS2 Software Emulator Coming to Sony's PlayStation 3

650°
289w ago - To compliment an [Register or Login to view links] from earlier today, a member of NeoGAF known as mephesta [Register or Login to view links] he was told by a Sony rep that they may be eventually be putting out a PS2 emulator for the PlayStation 3 console.

Apparently, as the PS2 has about one year left on its life cycle, we shouldn't expect Sony to develop anything new with regards to backwards compatibility.. and they will just go out and get a PS2 emulator to put in future consoles.

To quote: The rumor comes from NeoGAF member Meph who recounts what was told to him by a Sony representative (openly described as a 'tool'). The story goes that Sony might be willing to buy a PlayStation 2 emulator for the future.

"He mentioned that since the PS2 has just 1 year left on its life-cycle not to expect them to develop anything new with regards to backwards compatibility," says Meph.

"He then leans in and lowers his voice, as if to tell me some deep dark secret and mentions that Sony may be willing to potentially buy a PS2 emulator to put in future consoles."

Did the PlayStation 3 Have the Best Software in 2008?

200°
292w ago - Everyone is asking whether or not 2008 could be considered "the year of the PS3," and while it certainly closed the gap, the system still has a long ways to go from a sales perspective.

And while we're 100% certain the console will have the best exclusives in 2009 (do we really have to list those again?), this is a time for reflection. So...did the PS3 have the best software this year? Did the exclusives outstrip that of the competition?

As for the best games of the year, it had Grand Theft Auto IV, but there's no doubt that the driving software force in 2008 for the PS3 was Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Many will put this up against Gears of War 2 and GTAIV for their Game of the Year pick, and... well, the Wii doesn't even have games, does it?

Yeah. No, it doesn't. So it's a two-horse race for this year, and because most everything is multiplatform these days, maybe it's best to compare the PS3's "Big 3" against the 360's "Big 3."

Sure, stuff like GTAIV, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Call of Duty: World at War, Devil May Cry 4, Far Cry 2, Burnout Paradise, and Soul Calibur III are multi-console hits, and most all are almost identical between the PS3 and 360. So, about that big 3: the way I see it, it's MGS4, LBP and Resistance 2 versus...
