Rumor: Sony has 20 unknown exclusives in development for PS3

50°
341w ago - In one of those I heard from a friend rumors, a Sony Japan employee has reportedly revealed that Sony's internal studios have over 20 yet to be revealed projects for the PS3.

The only extra bit of information is that ICO is reportedly working on two of these exclusives.

To quote: Yesterday in a heated IM discussion about which of the three console makers is going to have the strongest line-up this year, a friend of mine who works at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan blurted out that Sony's internal studios have up their sleeves more than 20 yet-to-be-revealed projects for PlayStation 3.

Intrigued by this I asked if he could give me some examples. Project Siren (makers of the Forbidden Siren franchise), Team Saru (creators of the Ape Escape series) and Team ICO are three of the studios who're getting ready to reveal their new projects this year. After some more pushing, he told me that all he knows about Team ICO is that the team is working on two games, both for PS3.

My guess now is that Team ICO is indeed working on two games, none of which is for PSP. Most probably one is for PSN (hence the need of staff specialized in networking technology) and the other is headed for a Blu-ray disc release.

342w ago - We at PS3News.com asked Santa for a PS3 Test, and he delivered, albeit a bit late.

It is a special unit, it runs unsigned code, and can do loads of debugging.

Just today we have learned alot, including the Blu-Ray drives transparent encryption, and even dumped a majority of the flash and HDD from inside the unit (Unencrypted!)

More to come!

50°
346w ago - Nearly a month ago CJPC posted a Warhawk: Take Two PS3 Dev article.. since then a lot has happened, but due to finals and the holidays most of the resident Devs are too busy to update the news with their progress.

Recently ggparallel has shared the following for those interested- to quote:

Warhawk, is a game for PS3 GAMEOS. The retail version on Blue-ray allows you to send pkg via fake Web server via patches.

Howto under MAC OS:

Create a script that binds the various IPs of Sony Web server for example in MACOSX:

warhawk-start-interface.sh
#!/bin/bash
# where en0 is the interface you make the Web server listen
int="en0"
echo echo starting en0 aliases for PS3 networks
echo echo adding Warhawk http server port 80
/sbin/ifconfig $int inet 87.248.216.24 netmask 255.255.255.255
alias /sbin/ifconfig $int inet 87.248.217.171 netmask 255.255.255.255 alias

warhawk-stop-interface.sh
#!/bin/bash
# where en0 is the interface you make the Web server listen
int="en0"
echo echo removing en0 aliases for PS3 networks
echo echo removing Warhawk http server port 80

Insider says PS3 Blacksite plagued with development trouble

50°
353w ago - IGN recently revealed that players the PS3 version of Blacksite will not have all the online features of the 360 version. On the 360 players will be able to play ranked and unranked matches, and have voice support features. However an insider claims that problems run much deeper than this.

He said "The PS3 version is experiencing issues and missed deadlines," and that it is likely the demo and full game will be delayed. "Midway isn't happy at all about the progress, and it's a story I've heard over and over this year across the industry when it comes to the PS3 and cross-platform titles," the insider states.

To quote: The Unreal Engine powers Blacksite, which presents the possibility that the engine itself is leading to development problems. Midway's other big PS3 releases of Stranglehold and Unreal Tournament 3 have also seen long delays.

Sadly, the problems with Blacksite: Area 51 only further the growing list of problematic multiplatform releases on the PS3, and could reinforce the qualms about working with the Unreal Engine among multiplatform developers.
