Walmart Ad Confirms (Yet Again) the XBox 360 Price Drop!

50°
308w ago - As previously reported both here and here, and as Kotaku (among others) has pointed out, there has been more and more information leaking about the newest price cuts for the XBox 360.

It seems that as early as this coming weekend, the Arcade version will sell for $199, according to Walmart (as shown in the below scan of the ad starting this Sunday, September 7), and based on the other reports, the 60 GB Pro will retail for $299, with the 120 GB Elite rounding out the group at $399.

So yes, Microsoft will in fact be the first to break the $200 price point - if only by pennies and with the crummy Arcade system, but hey, it's still progress. If anyone bought a 360 recently, I hope you still have your receipts!

Also, no word yet on whether the price drop will affect any remaining 20 gig units, which are currently priced at $299 and would undoubtedly continue to sit there not selling were they to remain the same price as the 60 gig.

Midway Austin Project Canned, Confirms Layoffs

50°
312w ago - It appears Midway's financial woes continue. Today the company formally announced that it has canceled an "as-yet-unannounced" project in development at its Austin, Texas-based studio.

In further bleak news, as part of an ongoing initiative to "maximize its development resources and apply manpower and capital to projects with the highest chances of success," approx. 90 of all 130 employees employed by the studio will be laid off.

To quote: Matt Booty, interim CEO and president of Midway Games Inc. commented, "While this was a very difficult decision, we feel it was the right thing to do for the future of Midway. We view every game as an investment that must meet certain standards for quality, scheduling, and profitability. Midway remains committed to producing the highest quality entertainment, as evidenced by our strong holiday line-up which includes TNA iMPACT!, Blitz: The League II, and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe starring a team of MK characters and some of the most recognizable DC Comics personalities such as Batman, The Joker, and Superman."

Strong holiday line-up? Honestly, they'd be in deep trouble if it weren't for Mortal Kombat, which thankfully for them is almost guaranteed to sell well based on the inclusion of DC characters alone.

PlayStation UK Site Confirms Some Games Coming to US and EU

316w ago - The European PlayStation 3 Support site contains a list of games that have DualShock 3 compatibility. In this list, we found a few games that bring up our interests:

- Alien Sports: Minigolf (Zen Studios)
- Battle Fantasia (505 Games)
- Burn Zombie Burn (PSN) (Doublesix )
- Cinnamon Beats (Secret Exit)
- codename Cops
- Eternal Sonata (NBG)
- Godfather 2 (EA)
- Maxim Pinball (Zen Studios)
- Punisher: War Zone (Zen Studios)
- Underfire (PSN) (Doublesix)

Does this confirm that games such as Battle Fantasia and Eternal Sonata are at least coming to Europe (and hopefully the US)? There are some interesting unannounced games in there as well.

The image sourced earlier this week, but a post on the official blog confirms the BETA trials are active.

On their blog, Media Molecule mentions:

"(we are working very hard, honest! The beta-trials are keeping us especially busy)."

Sony Confirms Licensed Bluetooth Headset for PS3

50°
318w ago - Internet reports purported of an official, licensed Bluetooth headset made specifically for the PlayStation 3 back in March. Turns out it's real, as Sony confirmed today that the headset in question will be packaged with the retail-exclusive Blu-ray version of SOCOM: Confrontation and also will be sold separately.

Unlike most standard run-of-the-mill Bluetooth headsets, this one in particular will feature a mute button. Additionally, it will ship with a handy USB powered charging dock.

The product is slowly exiting the prototype phase, so pricing details have yet to be finalized, but expect more information to come to light as Confrontation nears its scheduled mid-September release.
