GT Prologue Pre-orders Reach One Million

200°
340w ago - While crashing and doing donuts mid circuit the other day in GT Prologue I had a chat with SCEE NZ's Marketing Manager Dave Hine and Paul Gunn (PR Extraordinaire) about the sales figures for GT Prologue and whether they thought the online would outsell the hard copy on Blu Disc.

They expressed their surprise at the popularity of War Hawk as down-loadable software and said that they anticipated GT to receive an even warmer welcome when it comes out later this month.

Also mentioned in the conversation was that the pre-order figures for the SCEE regions show orders already at one million. Making the PS3's first pre release Platinum title.

Top 25 PlayStation 2 Games of All Time

550°
340w ago - Here is the rundown:

25. Contra: Shattered Soldier (Konami)
It's time to grit your teeth, cock your weapon and show the world what you're made of. Contra: Shattered Soldier is the meatiest Contra game to date, only because it's the most difficult one ever made. That's just fine by us, though. Along with the challenge, you'll also find Shattered Soldier's gritty graphics and rock soundtrack par for the course.

24. Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (Namco Bandai)
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil is everything we hoped a sequel would be and so much more. The revamped cel-shaded visual style, along with the wondrous soundtrack and the classic 2-D gameplay, make it a game worth revisiting. It's a shame we won't see Klonoa 3 on the PS3 anytime soon.

23. Resident Evil 4 (Capcom)
Resident Evil 4 rocks on GameCube, but the PS2 received a solid port. Along with improved visuals and gameplay, RE4 on the PS2 also features several sub-missions featuring the strikingly beautiful Ada Wong.

22. Odin Sphere (Atlus)
Atlus' 2-D RPG Odin Sphere makes the list for being unlike anything we'd seen. The side-scrolling fighting style is perfectly balanced, and the hand-drawn visuals look exquisite.

21. Shadow of the Colossus (SCEA)
The ICO Team wanted to prove it wasn't a one trick...

Call of Duty rules on PS3

400°
340w ago - Call of Duty 4 is now officially the biggest game on PlayStation 3, according to the latest Chart Track information - and Activision plans to celebrate with a high profile consumer event and new downloadable content.

Alongside a renewed marketing push that will include online promotions with The Sun, SkySports, FHM, Kerrang and the MSN network, Activision will be inviting gamers to a special Boot Camp event where they can play the new downloadable multiplayer maps and compete for prizes.

"Call of Duty is now one of the largest video game franchises worldwide, and this has been achieved by combining a truly groundbreaking game with creative marketing campaigns that reach out to casual gamers as well as to core FPS players," said Activision marketing director David Tyler

"A whole programme of Call of Duty 4 related activities are in place for spring and summer. The Boot Camp event and refreshed marketing campaign are two examples of our ongoing commitment to this astonishing game."

Activision also recently revealed that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had sold over seven million units worldwide, including over a million in the UK. The new downloadable multiplayer maps will be available on both Xbox 360 and PS3 early next month.

MGS4 Confirmed 50GB Blu-ray?

250°
340w ago - It was revealed last month that a Blu-ray disc wasn't big enough to hold all languages for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4. Since all previous Playstation 3 games have resorted to the more constricted 25GB Disc, it was unclear whether MGS4 was to stray from this trend.

In a Konami retailers meeting yesterday, it was exposed that the game would be produced on a 50GB Blu-ray disc.

Ryan Patyon announced on the Kojima Report Podcast that US/European copies of MGS4 would not contain a Japanese voiceover and visa versa:

Unfortunately because of disc space, we don't have the space to include other languages, other voice over files for the respective versions.

So the Japanese version's not gonna have English voiceover, and the North American and European versions won't have Japanese voiceover.

Many presumed that Kojima decided to go with a 25gb Blu-ray disc to save on costs, but it was yesterday revealed in a Konami retailers meeting that the game is the biggest of the series, and will be presented on a 50GB disc.

What's taking up so much space we can only imagine. There will be hours of high-quality surround sound, and perhaps HD movies even though previous series had cutscenes rendered in real-time. How much space is taken up by game assets is unknown,...
