Rockstar feels 'terrible' about GTA IV lockup issues

100°
334w ago - Multiple reports surfaced on Tuesday suggesting that both Xbox 360 and PS3 systems are freezing up during playback of Grand Theft Auto IV.

The issue is said to affect an unknown number of Xbox 360 and PS3 systems, either during the opening cut scene of the game or while trying to exit multiplayer mode, resulting in an inability to advance in the game, or worse, an inability to play any game on the affected console.

Multiple GamePro, Kotaku, NeoGAF, and Shacknews users have complained, with no consensus of a proven user fix.

Rockstar was not immediately available for comment when contacted by GamePro, however, a Rockstar support representative told Kotaku on Tuesday: "I feel terrible about this," adding that the company is aware of the issue and working on a solution.

Unfortunately, the developer has yet to diagnose the problem or offer a timeline as to when a fix (or replacement disc) might be provided.

Gamers believe Rockstar is covering up PS3 freezing issue

334w ago - A thread on the US PlayStation boards (linked above) about GTA IV freezing issues has now reached over 1,600 comments from angry gamers requesting a patch ASAP.

The forum members have been angered further as videos of the game freezing uploaded to YouTube have been removed due to a "copyright claim by Take 2 Games."

Many now believe Rockstar are now trying to cover up the issue. We did however manage to find one video of the game freezing from cooleyre as you can see below... how long it lasts is undetermined though. :P

GTA IV: the most expensive Production Game ever?

50°
334w ago - Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies revealed in an interview that the recently released Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, X360) had a budget of roughly $100 million, marking the title as the most costly development of any game to date.

GTA IV's massive budget pins the title above the previous front-runner Shenmue, released for the Dreamcast in 2000 and costing an unprecedented $70 million to produce.

"It's like making a theatre production, a few movies and an album all to fit into one package," Benzies told the Times Online.

Benzies also noted that about 1,000 people pitched in on the game's development. Beyond the expected tasks of programming and design, Rockstar also set up time-lapse cameras on New York rooftops to capture the correct intensity of the rain, and took over 100,000 photographs on location to piece together Liberty City.

"We're constantly competing against ourselves," says Benzies. "If something isn't exactly right, it comes out of the game or gets fixed."
