Sony PlayStation App for PS4 Detailed by President Shuhei Yoshida

50w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton announced that further details on the upcoming PlayStation App for PS4 are available from President Shuhei Yoshida today.

To quote: Did any of the early birds among you stay up the week before last to watch the Tokyo Game Show keynote?

If you did, you'll have seen Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida take to the stage to unveil the new PlayStation App, launching alongside PS4 later this year.

In general terms, the new app allows you to take the PlayStation experience with you when you're away from your PS4. You can stay in touch with friends, compare Trophies, view friends' activity (such as recorded or live-streamed gameplay), and access all the latest news.

I caught up with Yoshida immediately after the show, and asked him to expand on exactly what gamers can expect from PlayStation App later this year.

"It's an application that anyone can download for free on iOS and Android devices," he explained.

Sony PlayStation 4 Audio Processor (ACP) PS4 Details Surface

51w ago - Following up on the previous PS4 updates, today details on the PlayStation 4 Audio Processor (ACP) have surfaced from Sony documention.

To quote (via VGLeaks.com, linked above): "Mark Cerny confirmed in an interview that PlayStation 4 uses hardware expressly dedicated to audio tasks. What are the capabilities of this hardware? What is Sony telling to developers about it?

Here we have some material from Sony’s presentations where you can learn more about audio custom hardware in PS4. This dedicated hardware will manage basic tasks, for game or system, relying on the CPU or GPU for advanced tasks.

Another important point is that this audio block is not programmable by developers directly, they could only access it via OS."

Sony on PS4's Noise Level, Power Consumption & Media Performance

51w ago - Following up on their previous updates, today Sony's SVP has given PlayStation 4 fans more insight into the PS4's noise level, power consumption, media performance and more below.
