Hands-On Report: Is Too Human the Xbox 360's Haze?

50°
326w ago - Last night Microsoft held a little Too Human event, giving the Australian games journalist scene an opportunity to get some hands-on time with the highly anticipated release. In production for a whopping 10 years and delayed almost as many times as Duke Nukem Forever, it is one of 'those' titles that passionate fanboy nutters bring up when they're having those silly console war arguments.

But with PS3 owners smarter at the debacle which was Haze, could X360 fans have a similar embarrassment on the horizon with Too Human?

Three members of the gameplayer team were on hand for the event and while we weren't able to put the game through our usually rigorous preview testing, we thought you might be interested in our first up impressions. You might be surprised by our thoughts.

Adam Mathew- Too Early to Tell: Playing the game last night I was left with very mixed opinions of the game. I have to say that the premise of the plot is something out of the ordinary and it intrigues the hell out of me. For those of you who don't know it; Too Human is set in an ancient past when Norse gods actually existed, but the twist is these 'gods' are actually cybernetically enhanced humans.

The good news is you play as one of these bad arses; Baldur, one of the Aesir (one of the principal...

Preview: Killzone 2 Hands-On for PS3

100°
327w ago - Do you remember E3 in 2005? No, not the one with giant enemy crabs, massive damage, and "Ridge Racer!" - that was E3 2006. E3 2005 was the event where Sony showed the now infamous Killzone 2 trailer.

Much debate raged at the time as to whether it was pre-rendered footage or rendered in real time (it was pre-rendered, for the record) and much debate also raged as to whether or not the PS3 would actually be capable of displaying such visual beauty. Because, let's face it, in a pre-Gears of War world, the Xbox 360 wasn't exactly setting the world alight graphically.

Afterwards, Killzone 2 seemed to drop off the radar completely. Trade show after trade show it was conspicuously absent and people started to talk. Would Killzone 2 look like ass? Would it be another Duke Nukem Forever? Never mind the gameplay; all people wanted to know about was whether it was coming and whether it would live up to the pre-rendered footage.

Finally, some footage and screenshots emerged, and it seemed like while Killzone 2 wouldn't match the pre-rendered footage, it would at least come damn close. And, having now played the game myself, I can assure you that Killzone 2 looks amazing.

Although I was only playing a pre-alpha build (read: early days yet), I was still blown away by what I saw. Sure,...

Hands-On: Far Cry 2 for Multi-platform

50°
330w ago - Open worlds aren't exactly new in gaming nowadays. Just look at Grand Theft Auto. There's something liberating about an open world, as you're able to go where you want when you want; you don't feel like you're being funneled along a very narrow path.

With Far Cry 2, Ubisoft and its Ubisoft Montreal team want to deliver what is quite possibly the most convincing and realistic open world yet, but instead of trying to build urban jungles they're building actual jungles, as well as Serengeti plains, forests, and more.

We finally got our hands on Far Cry 2 this month to explore its African setting for the first time, and it's an impressive game in terms of technology and gameplay.

The mission that we got to play demonstrates the complex open world that's being created for the game. You play as a mercenary (you get to select from a pool at the start of the game) who is tasked with bringing down a merciless arms dealer who is arming both sides of a civil war in Africa. However, you need to work your way up the ladder to get to him, which means that you'll have to do missions and align yourself with various factions.

You start in a swampy area, with a safe house nearby. Go to the house and you'll meet a couple of characters, one of whom will task you with destroying a nearby pipeline...
