Hands-On - MotorStorm: Pacific Rift for PlayStation 3

100°
329w ago - We had a chance to check in with MotorStorm: Pacific Rift once again. An "80% complete" demo we played gave us access to four different levels: two single player and two split-screen races. Easily the most impressive level we played had to be the Wildfire level.

This level takes everything that's good about MotorStorm and amplifies it to the extreme. Pacific Rift's play on hot versus cold goes into full effect here, in this dark volcanic level. It's unlike anything we've seen from the game so far, and it's a terrific contrast to the usual lush greens of the game.

With deadly lava and fire everywhere, this is quite possibly the most dramatic level in the MotorStorm series so far. Of course, with the heat so high, your vehicle will have a rather easy disposition to overheat whilst boosting -- we even went so far as to explode our bike. Ouch!

Thankfully, there are numerous showering stations scattered throughout the branching course, which will cool down your vehicle and take out any fire which may still be clinging to your vehicle. The constant switch between molten lava and refreshing water is not only visually arresting, but creates a very good gameplay balance. Do you opt to take a shorter route to shave a few seconds off your time, or do you go headstrong through the water to cool down your...

Konami hands out two more MGS4 codes, one download

50°
330w ago - Here are some more Metal Gear Solid 4 codes for all of you who want "free" stuff. It's technically free because you don't have to exert any effort in getting them, but it's all content already on the disc, which means you already paid for it. Go figure.

Anyway, these items are not as great as last week's, but we're sure you'll enjoy them just the same.

- skynytktjp - Scanning Plug S.
- mgo2play - Subsistence Action iPod Music

Just like last week, there's another item for download in addition to the codes. "Metal Camo" is available which causes Life and Psyche gauges to decrease at half the normal rate.

Your Camo Index will also go down by 10 percent. You can grab all three items by accessing the "Extras" menu.

Hands-On: The Force Unleashed Impressions

50°
338w ago - Going in to my time with Star Wars The Force Unleashed, I figured the best the game could do was recapture the fun of playing Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II on a console.

While The Force Unleashed pushes the graphics and, to some degree, the AI, forward, the experience of playing Unleashed was, as I had hoped, fairly similar to the hours of time I sank into Dark Forces II.

The game was enjoyable, at times a blast to play, but nothing that is going to shake the rock solid formula crafted by Dark Forces II.

I started my hands-on with the Xbox 360 version of the game (the PS3 version is said to be identical) playing as Darth Vader. I suspect this first introductory level is one of the only chances you get to play as the Sith mouth-breather.

The developers nailed Vader's walk, though I went from awe struck to annoyed a few minutes into the game when I realized I couldn't force Vader to sprint through the level. Instead you have to make do with his majestic, shoulder-rolling walk as he obliterates everything in his path, rocks, trees, Wookies, with a wave of the hand.

After playing the Vader level to completion, I hopped into shoes of Vader's secret apprentice and played through an entire chapter with him. Unlike Vader, whose powers are already maxed out, the apprentice...

Hands-On Report: Is Too Human the Xbox 360's Haze?

50°
340w ago - Last night Microsoft held a little Too Human event, giving the Australian games journalist scene an opportunity to get some hands-on time with the highly anticipated release. In production for a whopping 10 years and delayed almost as many times as Duke Nukem Forever, it is one of 'those' titles that passionate fanboy nutters bring up when they're having those silly console war arguments.

But with PS3 owners smarter at the debacle which was Haze, could X360 fans have a similar embarrassment on the horizon with Too Human?

Three members of the gameplayer team were on hand for the event and while we weren't able to put the game through our usually rigorous preview testing, we thought you might be interested in our first up impressions. You might be surprised by our thoughts.

Adam Mathew- Too Early to Tell: Playing the game last night I was left with very mixed opinions of the game. I have to say that the premise of the plot is something out of the ordinary and it intrigues the hell out of me. For those of you who don't know it; Too Human is set in an ancient past when Norse gods actually existed, but the twist is these 'gods' are actually cybernetically enhanced humans.

The good news is you play as one of these bad arses; Baldur, one of the Aesir (one of the principal...
