MotorStorm Arctic Edge PSP Pre-order Bonus Detailed

200°
280w ago - Today SCEA's Software Product Marketing Manager Scott McCarthy has shared bonus details on MotorStorm Arctic Edge pre-orders for Sony's PSP.

To quote: This just in for MotorStorm and driving fans. SCEA will be giving an exclusive vehicle to fans who pre-order MotrorStorm Arctic Edge for PSP and PSPgo.

The game hits shelves and the PSN Store on Sept 29th but fans who pre-order now will receive a Mirage Rapide rally car. That may not seem like a big deal to gamers who are not rally fans, so here are a few details:

• Comes with two customizable skins
• Gearing is set for top speed
• Handling is set at maximum drifting

This means the Mirage Rapide is made specifically to combat the tight cliff face turnabouts and the bobsled corners of MotorStorm Arctic Edge.

Being set in Alaska make the environment more unstable than ever but the Mirage Rapide has been tweaked for drifting racers to handle all the new challenges that come with the snowy and icy courses.

Go to any participating retailer to pre-order the game to get your exclusive drift rally car.

Killzone 2 Napalm & Cordite - The Weapons Pack for PS3 Detailed

50°
283w ago - Guerrilla Games Producer Sebastian Downie has detailed Killzone 2 Napalm & Cordite - The Weapons Pack for PS3 today on the PlayStation Blog.

To quote: Napalm & Cordite, the new downloadable content pack for Killzone 2, contains two exciting new multiplayer maps: Suljeva Cliffside, which takes place on the rocky outskirts of the Suljeva mining village; and Arctower Landing, which revisits the Arctower defense posts of Blood Meridian.

On top of that, the DLC pack allows you to wield a pair of weapons which were previously accessible only through the single player campaign!

Napalm: The VC1 Flamethrower
Found in the Suljeva Cliffside map, the VC1 Flamethrower projects an ignited stream of flammable liquid at high pressure. Consisting of low-octane gasoline and an unidentified component indigenous to Helghan, this form of Napalm is extremely effective for clearing out enemy trenches and bunkers.

Cordite: The Boltgun 4400
Also known as "The Handyman", the semi-automatic Boltgun 4400 can be picked up in the Arctower Landing map. It uses Cordite to propel metal bolts at an extremely high velocity, often pinning its targets to walls and other objects. In addition, each round contains a time-delayed explosive...

New Final Fantasy XIII Characters Detailed in Jump Magazine

300°
284w ago - A scan from the latest issue of Jump Magazine reveals some new Final Fantasy XIII character details, and [Register or Login to view links] forum member Rpgmonkey has translated some of the scan, as follows:

Hope Estheim
• The silver-haired boy
• Uses a boomerang
• Hates Snow for getting his mother involved in the battle
• New Monster, "Cie Corpse (Husk?)"
• The eventual fate of a l'Cie
• Vanille's weapon is a fishing rod
• Lightning's great skill, "Air Blast"
• A l'Cie becomes a Cie Corpse when there's an unclear objective and they exceed their time limit, or something like that.

Vanille is shown in several of the trailers, but she is still a mystery. Shown in the trailers as a young girl looking a lot like FFX's Rikku, Vanille will use a yo-yo type of weapon.

It's not heavily detailed as to what abilities she'll have or what kind her weapon will use, but she'll be swinging it around during battles.

In a later post he clarifies some of this information:

I don't know if it's exactly a fishing rod or it's just the most accurate description, but apparently she attacks with a needle attached to a wire, so it's at least the easiest...

WipEout Fury PS3 Developer Diary - Ship Design Detailed

50°
285w ago - SCEA Producer Daimion Pinnock has shared a peek at Ship Design in the form of a WipEout Fury PS3 Developer Diary today, as follows:

I'm happy to introduce some cool exclusive information about the making of the game and the Fury add-in, coming straight from Dave Glanister, WipEout Fury Ship designer on the WipEout HD development team.

Our main aim for the new WipEout Fury ships was to modernize their visual look whilst keeping the DNA of each existing individual team. On previous WipEout games, a key feature for ship design was its dynamic straight edge and triangular silhouette. For PSone and PSP this key element was the best way to achieve a great design without using a huge amount of polygons.

Our approach for the Fury ships was to keep the dynamic straight edge design but add to it by dividing the ships body panels up into three main layers. This new addition to the ships allowed us to overlap, interlock and weave the main ship panels together to achieve a more complex look.

By taking this approach it allowed the designs to show gaps, grooves and negative windows of space that were in-turn filled with real time PS3 self shadows. This made the ships appear lighter and more hover like without reducing the ships scale or bulk.

To evolve the designs...

PS3 Firmware 3.0 Rumored Features Are Detailed

550°
286w ago - Although it is still some time away (Super_Secret predicts PS3 Firmware 3.0 won't be out during the summer, but before the holidays) the folks at VG247 (linked above) have uncovered some additional details on it.

To quote: The software upgrade has been described to us as "a huge overhaul", and was compared to NXE "in some respects".

The before-rumored reputation system will be included. We were told that, "A reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided for... game applications.

"There will be a new API available to so the user can... allow users and also obtain users' reputation."

A "grief reporting system" will be included in the update, allowing gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. Apparently this is going to be similar to the LBP system, and is likely to include a text input.

Firmware 3.0 will allow patches will be downloaded in the background, meaning you'll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix.

There's more. Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the...
