325w ago - Couple of days old, but I didn't see it posted... the Call of Duty 4 Map Pack was recently released. Patch 1.6 gives PC gamers 4 maps for free.

To quote: Infinity Ward has released patch 1.6 for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This update includes 4 new maps: Broadcast, Chinatown, Killhouse and Creek. The map pack is also free unlike its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts, which cost roughly $10. Also included in the patch are:

- Hardcore and old school server browser filters.
- Fix for a Denial of Service attack.
- Includes all the changes up to patch 1.5.

You can download the patch at File Planet.

Call Of Duty 5 Announced

327w ago - Hot on the tail of news that Grand Theft Auto 4 just became the bestselling entertainment launch of all time, ever, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, competing publisher Activision has stepped up and announced that they'll be launching Call of Duty 5 in fall of this year.

Aaand no one heard them because they were too busy killing Albanian loan sharks and chasing hookers through Liberty City. But, once people get bored of GTA4 (read: never), I'm sure they'll be itching for some good old fashioned FPS action.

And those who don't own an XBOX or a PS3 won't be left hanging because it'll be coming out for PC, Wii, PS2 and DS also. (But COD3 pretty much sucked for the Wii, so I don't know if that's really good news).

Activision's CEO has also said that it'll be set in a "new military theatre." A more urban setting reminiscent of a large northeastern metropolis, perhaps?

Exclusive: Inside The Making Of Call Of Duty 4

337w ago - The new March 2008 issue of Game Developer magazine has an exclusive creator-written article on the making of Infinity Ward's Call Of Duty 4, and Gamasutra has extracts from the piece, discussing a second 'new IP' team once working at the developer and the relative successes of CoD4's PC and Xbox 360 demos.

The postmortem, written by Infinity Ward's Zeid Rieke and Michael Boon, is described by the Game Developer editors as follows:

"Call of Duty 4 is one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2007, and the authors make no secret of their pride in the product. There are many important lessons in here, from sticking to your ideals for a game (even if you aren't completely in charge of the series), to maintaining focus when alluring new IPs loom."

The Evolution Of CoD4

In this first extract, the Infinity Ward team discuss the start of the project, and some of the thought processes the team went through when creating the highly rated title, which Activision is claiming is the best-selling game of 2007 at 7 million copies:

"Call of Duty 4 was Infinity Ward's third Call of Duty game, and as such we approached it knowing we needed to do something fresh. We don't want to pigeonhole ourselves any more than we have to, and many members of the team came off Call...
