Call of Duty 4: Larger burden on Sony PS3 than Xbox 360

50°
337w ago - Games like Call of Duty 4 run at a framerate of 60 frames per second on both systems. But Call of Duty 4 is a game that experienced technical problems with various bottlenecks due to the varying levels of action that occur on the screen. The game was originally designed to run at 60 frames per second at 720p, but it caused drops in the framerate.

The proof of this is the fact that Call of Duty 4 runs at a resolution of only 640p on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This may be "equal" in terms of what is displayed on the screen, but the FACT is that Call of Duty 4 is putting a much larger burden on the PS3 than it is the Xbox 360.

Confirmation of this can be seen in the large number of games that "run smoothly at 60 frames per second on the Xbox 360, but struggle to run at 30 frames per second on the Playstation 3." That was a quote from Gamespot.

It's simple math: The Xbox 360 can display approximately 500,000,000 polygons per second, compared to 275,000,000 polygons per second for the Playstation 3.

Multi-platform games use what is called a "Lowest Common Denominator" form of programming.

Basically, what this means is the developers start out by saying to themselves, "We need to develop a game for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3."

No Trophies in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare per Infinity Ward

200°
337w ago - Per Fourzerotwo from Infinity Ward: With the latest PlayStation 3 Firmware now available, I see a lot of questions regarding how it effects Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

"At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule."

We would have loved to have these in the game at launch if the support was available, or shortly after.

Call of Duty: World at War First Look for PS3

338w ago - I'm sure that every PS3 player (even Xbox 360) are looking forward to the release of the next in the CoD series, which is Call of Duty: World at War...

The developers of the game stated that this game is unique compared to their early releases. The campaign will revolve around the pacific side of the world, and then the story will obviously take place there.

And of course, watch out for some new weapons and features of this game.

To quote: Last year's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was more that just a great game. It took a series that made a name for itself under the rich tapestry of World War II and pushed it some 60 years into the future. The end result was a game that used the latest advances in weaponry, in a setting influenced by some of today's most tense conflicts, to produce an experience both stirring and refreshing.

Since then, the big question on everyone's mind has been this: What will they do with the fifth Call of Duty? The answer, we know now, is a return to World War II. But rather than a step backward, Call of Duty: World at War is shaping up to be a unique take on this familiar timeline. With part of the campaign set in the often-overlooked Pacific theatre and plenty of inspiration drawn from Modern Warfare--both technical and creative--developer Treyarch is aiming...

Infinity Ward Insider Rumor: Call of Duty 6 goes Sci-Fi?

250°
339w ago - Ahead of this weekend's Call of Duty: World at War reveal via Xbox Live Marketplace, comes a tasty little rumour hinting that the COD4 developer's next game will be a bit on the science fiction side.

Take it with a pinch of salt for the time being but an insider from Infinity Ward is reported to have said, "we are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3.

We're not sure how much into the future we're talking here and we hope we're not shooting little green men or vampires on Mars. We've done a little digging only to be greeted by blank looks, which doesn't actually rule anything out in our experience. But it doesn't confirm anything either.

Usually we wouldn't go for such randomness, but we've got a funny feeling about this one. More soon maybe...?
