315w ago - Steve Fosted of SCEE has clarified that the 40GB PS3 SKU is the model of choice going forward and the 60GB SKU has already been stopped in production. He also confirmed that the 40GB is not just the model of choice in SCEE regions but also worldwide. To quote:
GN: There seems to be some confusion as to what PlayStation 3 models are going to be available in South Africa going forward – obviously currently the 60GB and the 40GB that just came out now. But is the idea to phase out the 60GB and bring in the 80GB at a later stage?
SF: Well, there has been a lot of confusion and speculation about the different models we have in the market. I think the confusion comes because of the different territories that we operate in. For example, the US has a different model structure than the European, which has a different model structure to the Japanese. Ultimately all of those are rationalising, becoming as one.
The model of choice, going forward, is going to be the 40GB. So when you say the 60GB is going to be phased out, that is absolutely correct. And our manufacturing plant has already stopped production of 60GB and there is no truth to what you say about the 80GB – it's a fabrication, or a misunderstanding.
GN: So the only model going forward, worldwide, is the 40GB?

316w ago - Sony CEO Howard Stringer has suggested that the momentum of the PS3 going into the Christmas period is the same as it was with the Playstation 2. Stringer commented that it takes time to build a new format and the PS3 is not behind the PS2 in terms of its momentum curve.
To quote: "The momentum shift and the energy behind PS3 in time for Christmas is extremely fortuitous," he said. "It was planned by the PlayStation group, but I think this momentum now -- particularly the number of games coming out, including our own as well as third-party -- is the same as it was with PlayStation 2."
Noting that "it takes time to build a new format," Stringer insisted that PS3 is "not behind the curve compared to PlayStation 2 in terms of momentum. The amount of bandwidth and the processing power of Cell give game manufacturers a lot more work to do to use this system to its full benefit -- and it's taken awhile to do it. The same was true of PlayStation 2."
He said Sony was waiting for the $399 price tag "to see if, indeed, the loyal PlayStation customers -- and there are 200 million of them who have PS2 -- (would) kick in, and clearly the value proposition has sent the message."

Blue-ray adult movies, definitely enjoy them on the new PS3.
Because there's nothing like seeing mosaics in HD! :P
