Video: PS3 TEST BD-Emulator in Action & More!

700°
328w ago - We have had quite a few requests as to how the BD-Emulator on a PS3 TEST console works, and thought the best way to show how it works is through a video!

After formatting a USB HDD (in this case, a 500GB EIDE Drive hooked to the PS3 via an old USB CDROM enclosure) in the PS3, it is transferred to a PC. Once transferred, a properly decrypted, patched and remastered retail game is written to the drive. The drive is then plugged back in via USB to the PS3 TEST, while off.

The Drive is then turned on, followed by the PS3. Once the PS3 is on the BD-Emulator is set to USB. DEV is for a PS3 TOOL, which has an additional internal HDD for BD-Emulator purposes, and BD Drive is self explanatory. The PS3 then gets rebooted.

Upon reboot is where the video starts, it first shows the previous settings in the PS3, and then the game that was remastered, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is started from BD-Emulator. The BD-Emulator is transparent to the PS3 system, it is accessed and used just like any normal Blu-ray disc is.

The game is then started to the title screen, then is quit and exited back to XMB. Since it works just like a Blu-ray Disc, the BD-Emu isn't much to look at, but it does work great!

On another interesting subject, a resident PS3...

SEGA/SNES Emulators on any PS3 Firmware, any Region via XMB!

328w ago - Courtesy of ST0RM53, linked above: Hey.. long time to write

With the hot news I saw I had to do something! Swap Magic on PS3 running? I thought it was patched, and indeed so, but only on US/Jap consoles.. I tried several swap magic (SM from now), but none worked... and this is becaused it IS patched, on fw 2.10 and up.

So I thought... if they patched a specific title, they seem they haven't patched others... so I found that I can create a bootable PS2 disc and I made one. I added many useful PS2 ELFs (not all useful for now..) but we have what we need. Ok, first the proof and then tutorial:

This method using an original SM disk has been already posted.. but never actully confirmed how or when SM works.. The method with an ORIGINAL SM DISC works only on EUROPEAN PS3s any FW, except 40gb ps3 which cannot run PS2 discs.

My method works along with above, but on ALL PS3's... any region, any FIRMWARE, except 40gb ps3 which cannot run ps2 disks again. AND you can run almost ANY ELF!!!

First lets see what we need:

Please note that only usb port 1 and 2 can be used, and ports 3 and 4 MUST be empty,...

Things to Add in Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3!

400°
328w ago - Fair warning right now, there will be general Metal Gear game spoilers in this article. If you have not finished Metal Gear Solid 4 at very least, go do so and then come back and read. The other games in the series may also have spoilers, but odds are you had that ruined or you played with the database too much already. Ok you've been warned.

I recently completed Metal Gear Solid 4 and what a ride it was. Great game start to finish, however there are some things I would have liked to have seen added. Calm down fanboys, I'm not knocking the game in ANY way, here are just my suggestions to give us a little more time in the Metal Gear World. Before I continue, I'll say it again, there are going to be some spoilers in here! Read on at your own risk!

Add #1: Playable Raiden
I know it's a little crazy, but why not let us do some Raiden chapters to see what he's been up to before he jumps in to hack and slash some Gekko up? The Metal Gear Series has never really let you play as one of the awesome Ninjas (Olga, Grey Fox aka Frank Jaeger, and now the cool, sword carrying acrobatic Raiden who apparently quit being a girl since MGS2.

Yeah I said it, take that MGS2 Raiden fans) and I think it's about time we get to pull off some crazy ninja action. Should be easy enough to do,...

Problems with the PS3, and Improvements to Make it Better

50°
328w ago - Firmware 2.40 brings the PS3 closer to a fully-fledged system, but there are still problems with the system software and features that are missing.

In this article, we detail some of the problems faced by the existing system software and what additional features can make it better. While not everyone will agree with the problems and improvements features in this article, it just goes to show how many flaws the system has and how far off it is from perfect.

Don't get me wrong here. I love my PS3 but there is always the need for criticism.

Current Problems (and possible solutions):

The friends list takes long to load - if you have over 50 friends, your friends list can take a while to load, in addition, it takes some time for their online status to refresh. One way to solve this problem is to cache the list and reload it as needed. Currently, it seems that the list is loaded fresh every time the console is started.

Lack of supported video and audio formats - only a limited number of video and music files are supported by the PS3. While the recently introduced DivX compatibility makes it easier for some people, there are still many formats that are missing. Currently, the PS3 cannot be classified as a "media center" without better compatibility.

Sony Sees More PS3 Integration With PSP

250°
328w ago - PSP hit the scene about three years ago and while it's been evolving into quite a useful handheld, it hasn't quite taken off like Sony would have liked.

But that doesn't mean that it's dying and SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller insists that sales have been "red hot" in 2008.

PlayStation 3 has also had a healthy rebound this year and Sony plans to integrate the two more as time goes by.

"I think as we go forward, we're going to see a lot more integration with PlayStation 3, particularly as the install base of the PS3 continues to grow stratospherically in many ways, and the integration that is going to occur there is part and parcel of the strategy that the console is the living room hub and really where your entertainment flows," he told IGN.

"Then, your PSP is your digital living room on the go, and being able to access your PS3 in a wide variety of ways is really a key part of our overall branding strategy. That's going to be something that you're going to see expanded on in future firmware updates and other things."
