Sony rules out PS3 Price Cut for Christmas, PS3 is a Good Value

300°
322w ago - The Financial Times is reporting that Kazuo Hirai "has ruled out cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 console before Christmas, insisting that the PS3 is better value than rivals half its price."

To quote: Mr Hirai argues that the basic Xbox has no hard disk drive while the PS3 plays high-definition Blu-Ray movies as standard. "When you really compare apples to apples, then I think we have a very good value proposition," he said.

"The answer is yes, if you're asking, 'Are these the prices we're going with this Christmas?'" said Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, in an interview with the Financial Times.

Video: Zod's PSX4Pandora PSX Emulator Proof-Of-Concept

200°
323w ago - Courtesy of MWeston2 via YouTube, a new video is available of a PSX emulator running on the open source portable Pandora console.

It's not running at full speed, but apparently once it utilizes OpenGL it will easily be able to emulate at full speed!

To quote: This is just a zoomed out video of PSX4Pandora to show it's real. There's nothing new here, but just a proof of concept video that was sitting on my camera.

Sound works with one kernel and the gamepad works with another so it's still a work in progress due to OSS incompatibilities in the kernels. It will get worked out, but still not at 100%.

Microsoft Sues DHL after Train Dumps 21,600 XBox 360 Consoles

323w ago - Microsoft is suing shipping company DHL for allegedly losing 21,600 Xbox 360 consoles in a Texas train derailment, according to court documents.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle, Microsoft said it is seeking more than US$2 million in damages from DHL for two containers of Xbox 360 consoles that sustained "impact damage, wetting, pilfering and shortage" after a derailment near Duke, Texas.

The Xboxes were en route from a Microsoft office in McAllen, Texas, to Long Beach, California, for eventual delivery to Hong Kong at the time of the loss, which occurred on Oct. 13, 2007, according to court papers. Flextronics Industrial in Hong Kong was the intended recipient.

Microsoft claims that DHL has refused to compensate it for the loss, even though the delivery service "negligently breached its duties as a common carrier, handler, bailee, warehouseman, agent, or in other capabilities," according to the court papers.

DHL could not be reached for comment Friday.

Microsoft's latest console was also the center of recent controversy in Colorado, where a man was indicted on Sept. 23 for illegally reselling both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems.

According to the U.S. State Attorney's Office in the District...

TGS 2008: PS3 Peripheral Charging AC Adapter Announced

100°
323w ago - Those of you with only two USB ports can now rejoice... Sony is releasing an AC Adapter (pictured below) for the Japanese market on December 18th for 2,800 yen (about $28 USD).

This peripheral will allow you to charge your DualShock 3/SIXAXIS controllers or any other accessories independent of your PS3, thereby freeing up those precious USB ports.

The wireless keypad will also debut in Japan on the same day for 5,500 yen (about $55 USD).

Keep in mind prices in Japan tend to be higher, so when these products debut in the US, they will likely retail for less.
