Rumor: Heavenly Sword 2 cancelled for PS3

50°
326w ago - According to an "inside UK source" via Kotaku, Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe has cancelled Heavenly Sword 2.

The game had been in development for a few months, but Sony has apparently decided that it is no longer commercially viable.

To quote: On a side note, Ninja Theory, who have already said they weren't working on the sequel to their PlayStation 3 exclusive, have grown increasingly bitter about their treatment at Sony's hands, our source tells us.

I'm told that the development studio, which once had offices in the same building as Sony Cambridge ha started packing up to move to a new location.

Needless to say, this is deemed simply a rumor for the time being...

Ten Things That Suck About Metal Gear Solid 4

650°
326w ago - The initial shock and awe of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has come and gone, and it's now time to reflect on Hideo Kojima's recently released opus. Though MGS4 is no doubt a stunning game and many would argue evidence for videogames being treated as art, it's by no means perfect.

Having just completed the game and spent some time in Metal Gear Online, I'm here to share my gripes about the game. Being a long-time fan of the MGS series, it's frustrating to see MGS4 turn out the way that it did, but I suppose it is what it is.

Be warned, I don't have any criticisms of the story, but I do discuss the gameplay in each Act of the game, so if you don't want anything spoiled, best to just move on.

1. No reason to be on the Playstation 3

Why is this game on the PS3 again, besides Sony likely throwing a ton of money at Konami to keep it exclusive? It doesn't utilize the Playstation 3's strengths at all. The previously shown SIXAXIS support is nonexistent in the final product, with only one small sequence that uses it, to poor effect at that.

And don't tell me they needed the storage space for Blu-Ray. We all know it was merely an excuse for Kojima to use uncompressed audio throughout the game. Throw some lossy compression at the audio (that 99% of users...

Shadow of the Colossus for PS2 - Was the hype justified?

550°
326w ago - Every console has a certain amount of games that are said to be the defining moments of that generation of gaming. Many of us have heard the tales of Space Invaders, Joust, Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy VII.

While some of us have lived those days and enjoyed them thoroughly, there are still quite a few gamers left who chose to sit on the fence and perhaps miss out on an experience like no other. This is why I have started this feature for the readers of PlayStation Universe.

If a game has received some notoriety in the past and has been claimed to be a PlayStation masterpiece in the field of gaming, I'll be checking it out to give you my final verdict.

This marks my first departure into the world of past generation's titles. I hope you guys enjoy it and for those of you sitting on that fence, hopefully you'll now fall to either side. Reviews:

"After playing it for a while and slaying 5 colossi, I tip my hat. This far, I had only heard people mumbling about the masterpiece it was. Maybe it was because I wasn't mature enough to understand all connotations portrayed in this game. The gameplay, art style, story, music, colossi, and everything else not listed. Everything is blended perfectly into a game that should not be considered anything less than...

New game similar to Singstar: Lips

50°
326w ago - Lips is a new game that is pretty much like Singstar. There will be 30 songs you can sing along to, some of which are by well known people, while others are by lesser knowns.

Sue me if I'm wrong, having never played Singstar, but it also brings some new features to the fold like being able to upload your own songs and sing along to them. Plus there will be downloadable songs, too.

30 songs: The songs include a mix of popular songs like Madonna, and local songs specific to the United Kingdom.

2 Wireless Interactive Microphones: Wireless mics are interactive, with lights on the shaft of the microphone that pulse to the rhythm of your voice, and motion sensors that allow you to dance, move or swing to score points.

Use your own music: Take songs from CD or your iPod, and upload them into the game. The game will reduce the vocals so you can sing along and be heard, and score you on whether you're in tune. Lyrics can also be added directly into the song to sing along.

Download songs: Hundreds of music videos with lyrics are available online for a small fee, which you sing and be scored on.

300°
326w ago - According to various reports, PS3 Firmware 2.36 is slated to hit within a week. One such report is from consoul of NeoGAF, linked above.

Much like the last few PSP updates, nothing too substantial will be added, aside from the usual security enhancements and compatibility fixes.

In case anyone missed it, a video of PS3 Firmware 2.40 in action is HERE.

Let's hope this is the last minor update before 2.40 hits.
