Pachter: PS3 at $299 in April, XBox 360 Price Cut to Follow

200°
309w ago - Well known gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that Sony will drop the price of the PlayStation 3 to $299 this April.

Pacther also indicated that Microsoft may further lower its price on the XBox 360.

To quote: Pachter, however, believes the $399 price point will finally come down to $299 in just a few months. Microsoft is likely to drop its price on the 360 as well.

"Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to $299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to $249 at or before this year's E3 show in June.

We expect Nintendo to maintain Wii pricing at $249 until the company sees signs that demand is slowing, which means a price cut may not happen until late in the year, if at all," Pachter said.

309w ago - Here is a translation of an ongoing project from Spanish developer DemonHades (linked above) courtesy of idone, detailing the PS3 BiOS chip being pulled and starting to be traced as follows:

For some time, we have been talking about the PlayStation 3 BiOS, and up to date there is no public info about the IC which does this job and the way it stores the information.

Here is a quick briefing of what we have done so far (pictures in sequence with the below text, spread across the three images below):

Pic #1: The reference of this IC is CXR713120-202GB.

Pics #2 & #3: Thanks to KnightSolidus we have these photos with the ways of this IC and some notes of connections references with colors.

Pic #4: The PLAYSTATION 3 BIOS is also known as SYSTEM CONTROLLER (SysCon)

Pic #5: As we can see in the image, SYSTEM CONTROLLER uses an SPI interface to communicate with the CELL eeprom, on which possibly it will know how to behave. We think it *might* be something interesting to work with.

Pic #6: Using this SPI interface, we can try to cause a livelock that would get us the checkstop.

Pic #7: Here we can see the CXR SYSTEM CONTROLLER, internal diagram. We believe that the UART port...

COD 6: Hostage Multiplayer Game on Sony PS3 and XBox 360?

100°
309w ago - We have read many ideas for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, some about the weapons and others about the game type's in multiplayer. One of the best ideas we would like to see is a hostage online game.

You could save your hostages from the other team before they get killed or something along those lines. Maybe even have the hostages have the option to try and escape from their captors.

Another great idea in COD 6: is to have the lobby for the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 updated, especially on the PS3. When you go to find match it would be good to have it setup like this:

Find Match - Countries - Core/Hardcore - Game Modes

Playlists for different countries or regions should be added because people would rather be playing against people from their own country and have a good connection, other than being thrown into a random match with people from another country and have a bad connection.

Would you like a hostage game type in multiplayer and a choice of countries when finding a match? Comment below!
