311w ago - If you have some extra money left in your gaming budget, you might want to consider buying a copy of the next issue of Game Informer. It takes an in-depth look into one of the most anticipated PS3 titles so far: God of War 3.

The mag's March issue will include exclusive info, art, and screenshots of the final installment of the brutal series. There's also some features on games like Resident Evil 5, BrĂĽtal Legend, and GTA 4: The Lost and Damned.

Aside from the meaty stuff found in its pages, the mag's also got a sweet cover showing Kratos being his usual bad-ass self.

Check out how he grabs onto the cyclops' eyelid in the cover shot to the right. Man, that's gotta hurt.

Modified Video Game Helps Aid as Fire Drill Simulator

311w ago - Researchers at Durham University have modified a video game and turned it into a fire drill simulator.

The team used The Source Engine, the 3D game engine used to drive Half-Life 2, and created a virtual model of one of the university's departments.

Developers plan to use it to examine people's behavior in a fire and to train people in good fire practice. The simulator can be adapted to mimic the interior of most buildings, although modification will be needed.

Durham University's Dr Shamus Smith, who helped spearhead the project, told BBC News that that while bespoke 3D modelling software was available, modifying a video game was faster, more cost effective, and had better special effects.

"The [Register or Login to view links] you see is an example of how to escape the Computer Science Department of Durham University.

"We were interested in using game technology over a customised application and The Source Engine, from Half-Life, is very versatile. "We used the simulation to see how people behaved in an actual fire situation and to train people in 'good practice' in a fire.

The team at Durham say the virtual environment helped familiarise people with evacuation routines and could also help identify problems with...

In summary, he has added a SMA connector to his Sony PlayStation 3 console and as a result he was able to increase the WiFi signal from 20% to 52%.. over a 25% jump!

Below is a picture of the finished PS3 External WiFi Antenna Mod, and also 'before' and 'after' pics of the Internet Connection screens.

To quote in part, roughly translated: Good, after several days of work and investigation, I have been able to replace one of the internal antennas wifi of ps3 (ANT0-WLAN) by 9 an external antenna of dbi, connected through connecting SMA, implanted in the back part of the console.

To comment that once with the materials in my power, and with the clear things on the way to act, this mod has not taken to me but of 30 minutes. Including the disassembling, implantation of the connector and final assembly of the machine.

We begin by the necessary materials:

1. a PS3 with board Wifi, that is to say, that our black has Wifi connection.

2. a Pigtail UFL to SMA female of 30 cm. (Between 10 and 15 Euros)

3. an antenna with male connection SMA; it has of all the powers, from 5 dbi to 50. (from 5 Euros)
