MAG Official PS3 Box Art and Statistics from the Beta Released

200°
263w ago - Zipper Interactive's Sr. Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has posted up the official MAG PS3 box art today on the PlayStation Blog alongside some statistics from the MAG Beta.

To quote: We've been exceedingly grateful to those of you who participated in our MAG beta tests over the last several months and couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.

Naturally, with the end of our beta cycle, comes the countdown to our final release on January 26, and what better way to start that countdown than to reveal the final, "official" box art that you'll find in the United States and Canada. Have a gander!

Pretty sweet isn't it? Yeah, we like it too.

Now that you know what to look for in the future, let's go back to the past for a moment and talk about some interesting information we gathered over the last month.

• More than 42,000 matches were played over the course of the full public beta (August 17 - December 5).
• During October's beta period alone nearly 534,000+ miles were traveled in-game by MAG players each week.
• During the final month of the Beta 4 and 4.5 periods (November 9 - December 5):

Of the more than 65,000 players that logged on, 17,000 of them qualified for Squad Leader, 3500 people qualified...

265w ago - Here is the first version 1.00 of my PSN Package Auto-Renamer for PlayStation 3.

If you download .PKG files from the Debug PlayStation Network Links or Retail PlayStation Network Links pages then it will simply rename them from the PSN hash to their proper ServiceID for collectors and developers.

Download: PSN Package Auto-Renamer v1.00 for PS3

It requires [Register or Login to view links] installed to run it, and then just drag and drop PlayStation 3 package(s) file(s) into the software window to rename them correctly.

Example: Smash Cars PSN hash is:

DT1M4JasugeWR8qCUsyiNTpcx6bVyIyY5PxfjbKOOLorsuVf0nODWtrrXuidMBKLYK9kElpKtotbdCpVvr9oiYsa0
lu7cHcXFEkLS.pkg

After renaming to ServiceID it is:

UP9000-NPUA70069_00-ADHOCPARTY000000-A0100-V0100-PE.pkg

Wii System Menu 4.2 Released, Deletes and Blocks Homebrew

550°
274w ago - It appears Nintendo has released another Wii System Menu update today to version 4.2.

Like previous updates, this latest revision will both delete and block Wii homebrew... and in [Register or Login to view links] destroy consoles, so be aware of this before updating your console.

It's also a mandatory update in order to access the Wii Shop Channel.

To quote: "I have NO idea why Nintendo loves to send me those update messages at midnight... alas, they keep doing it. Anyway, this time it was to let us know that the Wii has a System Update waiting: Firmware 4.2.

Now, the weird thing is, Nintendo hasn't even announced this yet! That's right, it just hits your system and no official release is made.

As such, there is not much information on what exactly this 4.2 update does exactly... Obviously, it attempts to override any form of hacking, homebrewing, or illegal software loaders (and according to reports, it does so fairly well, deleting the ever-famous Homebrew Channel and all custom IOS installed in tampered Wiis)."
