New Final Fantasy XIII Characters Detailed in Jump Magazine

300°
266w ago - A scan from the latest issue of Jump Magazine reveals some new Final Fantasy XIII character details, and [Register or Login to view links] forum member Rpgmonkey has translated some of the scan, as follows:

Hope Estheim
• The silver-haired boy
• Uses a boomerang
• Hates Snow for getting his mother involved in the battle
• New Monster, "Cie Corpse (Husk?)"
• The eventual fate of a l'Cie
• Vanille's weapon is a fishing rod
• Lightning's great skill, "Air Blast"
• A l'Cie becomes a Cie Corpse when there's an unclear objective and they exceed their time limit, or something like that.

Vanille is shown in several of the trailers, but she is still a mystery. Shown in the trailers as a young girl looking a lot like FFX's Rikku, Vanille will use a yo-yo type of weapon.

It's not heavily detailed as to what abilities she'll have or what kind her weapon will use, but she'll be swinging it around during battles.

In a later post he clarifies some of this information:

I don't know if it's exactly a fishing rod or it's just the most accurate description, but apparently she attacks with a needle attached to a wire, so it's at least the easiest...

WipEout Fury PS3 Developer Diary - Ship Design Detailed

50°
268w ago - SCEA Producer Daimion Pinnock has shared a peek at Ship Design in the form of a WipEout Fury PS3 Developer Diary today, as follows:

I'm happy to introduce some cool exclusive information about the making of the game and the Fury add-in, coming straight from Dave Glanister, WipEout Fury Ship designer on the WipEout HD development team.

Our main aim for the new WipEout Fury ships was to modernize their visual look whilst keeping the DNA of each existing individual team. On previous WipEout games, a key feature for ship design was its dynamic straight edge and triangular silhouette. For PSone and PSP this key element was the best way to achieve a great design without using a huge amount of polygons.

Our approach for the Fury ships was to keep the dynamic straight edge design but add to it by dividing the ships body panels up into three main layers. This new addition to the ships allowed us to overlap, interlock and weave the main ship panels together to achieve a more complex look.

By taking this approach it allowed the designs to show gaps, grooves and negative windows of space that were in-turn filled with real time PS3 self shadows. This made the ships appear lighter and more hover like without reducing the ships scale or bulk.

To evolve the designs...

PS3 Firmware 3.0 Rumored Features Are Detailed

550°
269w ago - Although it is still some time away (Super_Secret predicts PS3 Firmware 3.0 won't be out during the summer, but before the holidays) the folks at VG247 (linked above) have uncovered some additional details on it.

To quote: The software upgrade has been described to us as "a huge overhaul", and was compared to NXE "in some respects".

The before-rumored reputation system will be included. We were told that, "A reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided for... game applications.

"There will be a new API available to so the user can... allow users and also obtain users' reputation."

A "grief reporting system" will be included in the update, allowing gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. Apparently this is going to be similar to the LBP system, and is likely to include a text input.

Firmware 3.0 will allow patches will be downloaded in the background, meaning you'll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix.

There's more. Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the...

PS3 Firmware 2.80 Update Changes Detailed

550°
269w ago - Despite Eric Lempel's statement about PS3 Firmware 2.80 only improving the playback quality of some PS3 format software, a few other changes have surfaced as well.

Both PS3Attitude (linked above) and GrandpaHomer have reported that the recently added Text Chat feature has now increased the maximum limit of characters from 32 to 64 per line.

It also has been reported that when using the official Sony Bluetooth Headset the microphone volume has been locked at level 3, without the ability to change it.

As mentioned yesterday, Open Remote Play (ORP) is currently not working properly in PS3 Firmware 2.80.

Since inception, the PS3 has prioritized devices plugged into the front of the console... meaning if you leave your Guitar Hero, Buzz, or Rock Band 'dongles' plugged in your Wireless controller is not number one. However, as of PS3 Firmware Update 2.80 the Wireless controller does gets assigned to number one.

Finally,...

New Features in Comet Crash on PlayStation Network Detailed

50°
270w ago - Today Pelfast Producer Jennifer Pourchot has detailed some new Comet Crash features on PlayStation Network.

To quote: We are pleased to announce that some exciting updates are now available in our first patch.

First, you will notice the new Video Record feature. You can now record gameplay videos to the hard drive or upload directly to your YouTube account. Comet Crash games can be incredibly unique, so I'm looking forward to seeing your videos.

In addition, we added country flags to the scoreboard. You'll have to beat your existing score to get a flag up there. Notice that scores with flags stand out amongst the others, so get them while they're hot!

There are a few other changes as well. You can read more details in the [Register or Login to view links].
