233w ago - In the aftermath of the Iranian election, the Iran governement has attempted to filter the content of electronic communication. Some Web sites being blocked completely and Internet overall being slowed.
Initial exposure of the recent events have been taking place on services such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. However some could find alternative means of communicating to those outside the country.
To quote: Craig Labovitz of Arbor Networks Inc has written a detailed report on what specific traffic is being blocked and/or filtered, noting that "Interestingly, game protocols like xbox and World of Warcraft show little evidence of government manipulation".
With the Xbox 360 offering video chat among the features of being an Xbox Gold subscriber, this could easily be an upcoming popular way for loved ones and news outlets to deliver messages to and from the country.
241w ago - Epic Games, whilst not mending Gears of War 2 and working on its downloadable content, are indeed busy with a bunch of projects. Last week, they applied for a patent for a brand new game that was titled Nano.Strike.
A few more patents around Nano.Strike showcase a rather unusual faceplate patent for consoles, which curiously makes us think about the Xbox 360, which is a matter of pure speculation at the moment.
Details regarding this title remain mysterious, although we think of this game as a spiritual successor to Kill.switch with elements of Gears of War infused within it.
On a serious note, this could very well turn out to be the psychological babbling game Cliff Blezenski has been rumored to be involved with or the new undisclosed game that People Can Fly (The studio behind Painkiller, which was later subsumed within Epic) and Electronic Arts partnered to develop and produce sometime last year.
With Electronic Entertainment Exposition promising to become "bigger better and more badass" this year around, a surprise from these famed and talented developers may make quite a few heads turn...
242w ago - It is not an uncommon practice to scour the Web, searching for news about your favorite upcoming games or a forum to discuss your favorite system.
Within the first 15 seconds of that search, you are bound to come across hordes of fanboyish articles stating that one console is better than the other. While neither side is innocent, there are many more Xbox love/PlayStation hate articles than any other, probably due to the system being around for an extra year.
What you may not know, or may not wish to admit, is that more and more Xbox 360, true fanboys, are making there way to the PlayStation 3. There are several questions I am sure you are wanting answered here, but lets focus on the general... What gives?
In the last six months, we have seen Sony step up it's gaming library with an onslaught of amazing titles that any gamer would feel naked without. Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid and Killzone 2 helped show the hardcore gamer that PlayStation 3 can brawl with the best of them while LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm, Buzz and countless others helped involve even the most elementary of gamers into the next generation system.
It is true that Microsoft's LIVE service on the 360 is 2nd to none, and it should be. But what they don't want you to know, is that the PlayStation Network is gaining...
242w ago - Whenever the issue of the Xbox 360 running out of technical steam is risen, you always get the same answer, "there's still more it can do", no offence but this excuse is getting old pretty quickly.
Is there really any thing left in the Xbox 360, hardware wise? I really don't think so.
It's been 3 years and still there are less than a handful of games that have pushed the visual boat that much farther, notably... Gears of War and Gears of War 2, what else has really brought outstanding graphics to the table? Halo 3?
In contrast in just 2 years the PS3 has seen exclusives games that easily destroy what is on the Xbox 360, games like Killzone 2, Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 spring quickly to mind, and these are out of what has been released, looking at what is still ahead, Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and Heavy Rain, the pattern looks set to continue.
So how in 3 years the console has only 1 series producing great graphics, and when one compares the visuals of gears of war 2 to that of the first, the difference isn't much...
My question is 'what really is left in the Xbox 360' technically? I know developers can get more out of the console through art styles and optimisation but it looks to me like the main bulk of tech hardware in the Xbox 360 has been squeezed dry.
243w ago - Microsoft has investigated the 'E74' issue on the XBox 360 and has recently concluded that they will cover repairs related to the error.
This will be included in the three year warranty program that was put into place in 2007 for general hardware failures.
To quote: While the majority of XBox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen.
After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console.
As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007.
