215w ago - PixelJunk Shooters is one of the most anticipated remaining PlayStation 3 games waiting to be released before the end of the year.
The PlayStation Network exclusive title looks like it would just sneak into the 2009 release calendar.
Dylan Cuthbert, the President and Managing Director of Q-Games, posted the following comments on his personal Twitter page, to quote:
"all I can say is we're aiming for Dec. 24th in Japan"
Christmas Eve seems like an interesting release frame since most of the holiday shopping done from consumers are already completed. Even so, PixelJunk Shooters is shaping up to be another hit game in the popular PixelJunk series.
247w ago - A tipster has revealed that Target stores are to receive a brand new PS3 SKU a few days after GDC 2009.
The new SKU will come with an 80GB console and two greatest hits games, namely: Motorstorm and Resistance.
To quote: According to a reader tip, Target stores are receiving a brand new PS3 SKU. The DPCI item number for the new product is 207-23-0009 and it will be available on March 29, a few days after the end of Game Developer's Conference.
The new SKU, confirmed by our tipster's photo, bundles the now-standard 80 GB console and two Greatest Hits games: MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man.
Those who have managed to keep track of the various SKUs will find this package awfully similar to a bundle launched in Europe in 2007. Heck, all it does is add Resistance to the now-defunct MotorStorm bundle.
251w ago - Microsoft's Xbox Live is being targeted by malicious hackers selling services that kick players off the network. To quote:
The booting services are proving popular with players who want a way to get revenge on those who beat them in an Xbox Live game.
The attackers are employing data flooding tools that have been used against websites for many years.
Microsoft is "investigating" the use of the tools and said those caught using them would be banned from Xbox Live.
"There's been a definite increase in the amount of people talking about and distributing these things over the last three to four weeks," said Chris Boyd, director of malware research at Facetime Communications.
The smart thing about these Xbox tools is that they do not attack the Xbox Live network itself," he said.
He said the tools work by exploiting the way that the Xbox Live network is set up. Game consoles connecting to the Xbox network send data via the net, and for that it needs an IP address.
Even better, said Mr Boyd, games played via Xbox Live are not hosted on private servers.
Instead," he said, "a lot of games on Xbox Live are hosted by players."
If hackers can discover the IP address of whoever is hosting a game they can employ many...
254w ago - Sony may have just reported a decrease in quarterly PS3 sales but executives are still in good spirits.
Apparently, the Sony execs believe they are on the right track to meet previously announced goals despite the poor performance recently.
To quote: "In terms of units, it is true that PS3, as compared to last year, is slightly worse, but on a full-year basis we believe we are on track to sell the 10 million units that I said at the beginning of the year," said Sony EVP and CFO Nobuyuki Oneda in an earnings call.
Sony announced earlier today that PS3 sold 4.46 million units during the company's fiscal Q3, a 9 percent drop from 4.9 million for the same quarter a year ago.
Oneda added, "...Relatively speaking, [compared to] the growth of other platforms, we are behind, but it's not the case that we are not meeting the target."
268w ago - According to many reports (including several in our own Forums HERE), retailers including WalMart and Target have been selling copies of LittleBigPlanet despite the game's official launch being delayed due to the alleged offensive material included.
Needless to say, it's probably best to call your local store up before you rush out to grab a copy though.
To quote: It seems that two huge retailers seem to have missed the boat on the recall, namely Wal-Mart and Target. That's right, I just picked up my copy of LittleBigPlanet at midnight here in my hometown. A quick phone call to all the surrounding cities' superstores brought similar responses. It's for sale, and that's the truth. This has been your ThatVideoGameBlog.com public service announcement.
