Sportsfriends: Johann Sebastian Joust as a 21st Century Martial Art

85w ago - LittleBigPlanet Karting Community Coordinator Michael Buffaloe has shared a video spotlighting Sportsfriends: Johann Sebastian Joust as a 21st Century Martial Art today.

Below are the details, to quote: Still haven't gotten behind the wheel of LittleBigPlanet Karting? You're in luck: the official LBP Karting Demo is available now!

Containing a Tutorial track, two Story tracks, a minigame, and a solid selection of costumes, karts, stickers, and more to customize your experience with, the Karting demo is a fantastic way to try our game before you buy.

Give it a go and if you enjoy it, remember that the full game contains over 10 times more tracks, costumes, and other content than the demo. And that's just what's on the disc! Add to that all of the content made in Create mode and the list becomes nearly endless.

LittleBigPlanet Karting has only been in the community's hands for a few weeks now, and there is already a ton of content to download and start exploring. So if you're not feeling especially creative and would rather jump right into some pre-made levels, there's plenty to choose from.

We're also releasing a new trailer for Karting today, which showcases the massive potential of the game's Creative toolset. We could say more, but let's...

Video: Sportsfriends: Pass the Hokra - PSN Preview Arrives

86w ago - Creator Ramiro Corbetta has introduced Sportsfriends: Hokra today complete with a PSN preview video for fans below.

To quote: I'm Ramiro Corbetta, creator of Hokra, one of the four games that make up Sportsfriends.

If you don't know about Sportsfriends, it's a compendium of four super fun local multiplayer games that's coming to PSN in 2013. Over the last couple of weeks, two of the other designers involved in Sportsfriends spoke about their games (you can read about Noah Sasso's BaraBariBall and about Bennett Foddy's Super Poler Riders), and today I get to write about my game.

Hokra is a minimalist sports game for two teams of two players. Players score points by holding the balls in the goals of their color on the corners of the screen. This video I did with Kotaku does a great job of explaining the basics of the game:

The rules are quite simple, but the game has a lot of depth to it. Even though I have played it for innumerable hours, I'm still finding new techniques and strategies when I play against expert competition.

When I started working on Hokra, I wasn't exactly making a game. I had been playing lots of FIFA, and like many other people, my favorite part of the game is...

Video: Sportsfriends: Building a Better Pole Riders for PS3

88w ago - Foddy Founder and Head Honcho Bennett Foddy has shared a Sportsfriends: Super Pole Riders video today spotlighting the building of a better Pole Riders for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: In 2010, when I started making Pole Riders, my original plan was to make a straight pole-vaulting game, like the ones in Summer Games or Daley Thompson's Decathlon, both games that were super-popular when I was six years old. Back in 1984, local multiplayer games were nearing the peak of their popularity.

In the arcades, there were games like Joust and Track & Field, but at home, and in the public libraries, the Epyx compilations ruled the roost: not just Summer Games but Winter Games and the immortal California Games too. I was absolutely obsessed with the pole-vault event in Summer Games and for the longest time, I wanted to make my own version of it.

Perhaps it's no coincidence, then, that I'm now involved in Sportsfriends, which is a spiritual successor to Summer Games - a compilation of four sports-themed games, to be played by up to four friends on the one couch.

But unlike the old Epyx compilations, none of the Sportsfriends games play it straight. Hokra is a hockey game with no goals and no sticks. BaraBariBall is a volleyball game with no net, where the...
