141w ago - Avalanche Software Senior Producer Jonathan Warner has made available a video today on Cars 2: The Video Game, which now officially supports PS3 3D and 4-player split-screen.
To quote: We're wrapping up production on Cars 2, and now we're excited to announce that Cars 2: The Video Game will be presented in 3D exclusively on the PS3.
We've worked very closely with Pixar to bring a cool Cars 2 game to life, and it's even more exciting to bring all of those great characters to life in a full 3D experience. Pixar has created such vibrant worlds that resonate so well with audiences that it seemed a natural extension to take the game to a 3D setting – just like the upcoming film.
What's more, our engineers were able to design a system that allows us to harness the power of the PS3 to display the game in four-player split screen in full 3D.
It made the PlayStation 3 the perfect choice for developing a 3D game. We're really looking forward to delivering a special racing game, and I hope you will enjoy playing it as much as we do!
The 3D aspect for the PS3 enables you to step into the game world and experience it the same way you will in a 3D-equipped theater. You'll get an extra visceral component to the...
186w ago - Following up on our previous article, today VG247.com (linked above) has reported that Sony's upcoming PSP2 will feature a touch-screen and two cameras.
As part of their E3 2010 reveal, the following details have currently surfaced on the PlayStation Portable 2, to quote:
• Multiple British sources have confirmed that PSP2 NDAs have been in place at publishers and developers for many months.
• PSP2 has two cameras, one forward and one backward facing.
• It has a touch-screen, but apparently it has retained the trademark physical PlayStation buttons.
• UK sources were previously working towards a "2010″ release. This is now "2011″.
• One source would be "amazed" if there was any kind of physical media involved. We've been told it "could" be 3G-enabled, as opposed to the WiFi-only PSP go. This bit was sketchy.
• Multiple PSP2 games are being made in Britain right now. Some have even already been canned.
• There have been "finished units" in the UK, but we haven't spoken to anyone that's seen a final case.
• When asked directly about reveal timing, one source said, "If the games were aiming for end 2010, beginning...
192w ago - Today Japanese video game peripheral manufacturer Hori has announced news of a new Sony-licensed PS3 Slim LCD screen modification that, when installed, will allow the PS3 Slim to go portable.
The devices attaches a 1,366 x 768 LCD screen and stereo speakers to your PlayStation 3 Slim console allowing you to essentially take the PS3 system anywhere you'd like.
Due out in Japan on May 27th for ¥26,040 ($275), and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
To quote: "Built by Japanese peripheral specialists Hori, it's an LCD screen that attaches to the top of the console, and is able to display games in high definition (720p).
Sounds slightly stupid, but then, it doesn't just give you a portable PS3, it gives you a portable Blu-Ray player as well (and, for the Japanese, it's even compatible with the torne digital TV peripheral). One that can display stuff in HD, for those times you're stuck at Gran's house on her old 28" SDTV.
194w ago - Today United Front Games Designer Mat Thomas has shared details, including hints of custom soundtracks coming, alongside a video dubbed ModNation Racers PS3: Bringing Back the Split-Screen.
To quote: There are two multiplayer experiences that we were keen to deliver in ModNation Racers.
First, there was the online race experience (up to 12 players), while the second was the couch racing experience.
It is hard to beat the multiplayer experience on the couch against friends - I think we can all remember this experience from other games we have enjoyed, and we were keen to make sure we delivered the same frantic experience for ModNation Racers.
We wanted to make sure we delivered two-player split-screen. From the start, we wanted our two-player split-screen to work online. ModNation Racers enables you and a friend to go online and play the game together.
This makes for intense competition and a lot of fun! Do you play together, helping each other out or do you take your friend out at every available opportunity? You can play action races and pure races together.
More importantly, two players can play together on any tracks developed by United Front Games or anyone online. It makes for an almost endless...
205w ago - IGN has shared their experience and a video from this year's CES show in Las Vegas while getting a peek at some Gran Turismo 5 PS3 (off-screen) 3D gameplay.
The GT5 video is available below, and to quote: "Sony had three demo stations set up, each with a brand-new 3D-enabled Bravia television and a pair of active shutter glasses.
According to the rep showing off the games, 1080p HD content does not work well with traditional 3D glasses such as Real3D lenses used at many movie theaters. Only active shutter glasses can properly "decode" the dual image and translate it into believable 3D.
The 3D Gran Tursimo demo, however, made better use of the 3D despite not looking nearly as crisp as Gran Turismo 5. There was a definite sensation of depth as your car drifted around corners with railings and signs sliding past you.
Following the demo lap, you get a replay of your performance. When the camera swings to look inside the car, your driver really appears to occupy 3D space inside the vehicle.
The steering wheel, the dash, the seat - they don't just look like they are operating on separate planes, like a Viewmaster. It all really comes together and looks as if you are peering in on a 3D scene."
