PS Vita Designer on Perfect Screen Size and Battling Engineers

400°
149w ago - SCEE Manager James Gallagher has shared an interview today with the PlayStation Vita designer on the perfect screen size and battling engineers below.

To quote: Last December I attended the Tokyo launch of PlayStation Vita, which is going to be in your hands just about one month from now.

While I was there I got to chat with Tokashi Sogabe of the Sony Corporate Design Centre, head of the team in charge of the aesthetic of the console.

Sogabe-san has 27 years of experience working with Sony, in which time he has designed the Walkman, Vaio notebooks, the current slimmer model of PS3 and many other electronic
devices.

We spoke about the look and feel of PS Vita and the eternal tug of war that goes on between the designers wanting to create something as sleek and compact as possible and the engineers whose job it is to cram as much technology as they can into that shell.

PS.Blog: A lot of people seem impressed by the five inch OLED screen on PlayStation Vita. How did you decide on that particular size?

Tokashi Sogabe: When we first saw a prototype of the beautiful OLED screen we used on PS Vita, we felt it deserved to be bigger than the 4.3 inch screen on PSP. It's almost as if we settled on five inches in order to really...

This is an OSK (On-Screen Keyboard) for the development of homebrews. Since I did not get to show the PS3 by psl1ght OSK decided to make one. Thinking about thinking I decided that maybe someone else saw this, so I decided to share my work: [Register or Login to view links]

It is released under GNU GPL, under which you can freely use the code, but any modification is above code should be released or before uploading it to the repository or enviandomela to me for the climb.

Is still in development, so has a lot of functionality to be added yet.

I hope to serve you,

Cars 2: The Video Game Supports PS3 3D & 4-Player Split-Screen

200°
191w ago - Avalanche Software Senior Producer Jonathan Warner has made available a video today on Cars 2: The Video Game, which now officially supports PS3 3D and 4-player split-screen.

To quote: We're wrapping up production on Cars 2, and now we're excited to announce that Cars 2: The Video Game will be presented in 3D exclusively on the PS3.

We've worked very closely with Pixar to bring a cool Cars 2 game to life, and it's even more exciting to bring all of those great characters to life in a full 3D experience. Pixar has created such vibrant worlds that resonate so well with audiences that it seemed a natural extension to take the game to a 3D setting – just like the upcoming film.

What's more, our engineers were able to design a system that allows us to harness the power of the PS3 to display the game in four-player split screen in full 3D.

It made the PlayStation 3 the perfect choice for developing a 3D game. We're really looking forward to delivering a special racing game, and I hope you will enjoy playing it as much as we do!

The 3D aspect for the PS3 enables you to step into the game world and experience it the same way you will in a 3D-equipped theater. You'll get an extra visceral component to the...

Rumor: Sony PSP2 to Feature a Touch-Screen and Two Cameras

650°
236w ago - Following up on our previous article, today VG247.com (linked above) has reported that Sony's upcoming PSP2 will feature a touch-screen and two cameras.

As part of their E3 2010 reveal, the following details have currently surfaced on the PlayStation Portable 2, to quote:

• Multiple British sources have confirmed that PSP2 NDAs have been in place at publishers and developers for many months.
• PSP2 has two cameras, one forward and one backward facing.
• It has a touch-screen, but apparently it has retained the trademark physical PlayStation buttons.
• UK sources were previously working towards a "2010″ release. This is now "2011″.
• One source would be "amazed" if there was any kind of physical media involved. We've been told it "could" be 3G-enabled, as opposed to the WiFi-only PSP go. This bit was sketchy.
• Multiple PSP2 games are being made in Britain right now. Some have even already been canned.
• There have been "finished units" in the UK, but we haven't spoken to anyone that's seen a final case.
• When asked directly about reveal timing, one source said, "If the games were aiming for end 2010, beginning...

PS3 Slim Goes Portable with Hori LCD Screen Modification

650°
242w ago - Today Japanese video game peripheral manufacturer Hori has announced news of a new Sony-licensed PS3 Slim LCD screen modification that, when installed, will allow the PS3 Slim to go portable.

The devices attaches a 1,366 x 768 LCD screen and stereo speakers to your PlayStation 3 Slim console allowing you to essentially take the PS3 system anywhere you'd like.

Due out in Japan on May 27th for 26,040 ($275), and is able to display games in high definition (720p).

To quote: "Built by Japanese peripheral specialists Hori, it's an LCD screen that attaches to the top of the console, and is able to display games in high definition (720p).

Sounds slightly stupid, but then, it doesn't just give you a portable PS3, it gives you a portable Blu-Ray player as well (and, for the Japanese, it's even compatible with the torne digital TV peripheral). One that can display stuff in HD, for those times you're stuck at Gran's house on her old 28" SDTV.

It'll go on sale May 27 in Japan, for USD $275."
