163w ago - Today JoyStiq.com (linked above), IGN and CVG have made available some Sony NGP (PSP2) Tech Demos video footage from GDC 2011.

The NGP Demos below include Little Deviants, Uncharted Portable, and augmented reality dinosaurplay, and to quote from CVG:

"He first reintroduced the crowd to an old dinosaur video, which Sony used as a tech demo to launch PSOne over a decade ago.

Having walked to the centre of the room, Horikawa then aimed an NGP towards an A3-sized image of a T-Rex on the floor. The rep then raised the camera of the NGP up towards the ceiling, to reveal a virtual jurassic monster as tall as GDC's Moscone Center.

As he moved the NGP down, it showed the beast's neck and body - drawing gasps and applause from the assembled audience."

Sony Confirms PS3 Game NGP Ports Will Be Simple and Quick

550°
166w ago - According to Edge Magazine via CVG, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that PS3 game ports to NGP (Next Generation Portable) will be both simple and quick for developers.

To quote: Today, many teams are familiar with the PS3 and are used to including a variety of effects in their titles.

"Based on this expertise - and also the working habits they developed working on the PS3 - we had to make development on the NGP as natural as possible - an extension of the PS3, if you will.

"So the three demos you've seen - Lost Planet 2, Ryu Ga Gotoku [Yakuza] and MGS4 - they prove porting is simple and quick, but it doesn't mean that's all you can expect. My view of NGP isn't just as a platform for porting PS3 titles."

Video: Kaz Hirai on the NGP - Next Generation Portable from Sony

167w ago - Today Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared a video interview with Kaz Hirai on the NGP - Next Generation Portable from Sony.

To quote: The day we announced the Next Generation Portable, or NGP, was quite an eventful one.

You might have followed the live blog, read the message on the Blog from SCEA CEO Jack Tretton, seen the topics trending on Twitter (6 out of 10 worldwide at one point!), or read the hands-on impressions.

At the very end of the day, I had a chance to catch up with Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.

While I knew I'd be unable to gather any more details than what was announced earlier in the day, I was curious about the broader aspects of the news: Why announce NGP now? Where does it fit into the PlayStation console life cycle philosophy?

How did publishing partners like Epic Games and Activision get involved in the announcement? I hope you enjoy hearing these answers in detail directly from Mr. Hirai.

Rumor: PSP2 Official Picture Leaked, Sony Reveal on January 27

650°
168w ago - Since the previous PSP2 Dev Kit picture leak, Kotaku (linked above) has now posted what may be the first leaked official retail picture of Sony's PSP2 handheld console while VG247.com reports that Sony will reveal the PSP2 on January 27th in Tokyo.

To quote: This art work surfaced online today on 2CH, Japan's largest online forum.

The photo features a handheld believed to be the PSP2, which has a PSPgo style sliding shell. There is a 32 GB SD memory card as well, plus a "PSP2" Memory Stick. There is a long, thin stylus as well. According to Japan's Nikkei newspaper, the PSP2 will have a touch screen.

Unlike the current PSP, there are two analog nubs, giving this handheld a controller layout similar to the PS3.

What is fishy about the picture is that it appears to be a photograph of a handout of some kind. While handouts may be present at the January 27 press conference, it's also a good way for a Photoshopper to hide their work, as it masks any differences in resolution you'd be able to detect in an online image.

Going by the codename VITA, PSP2 has been in the...
