Running PSP Games on PlayStation Vita with a PS3 is Revealed

750°
126w ago - Following up on our previous article demonstrating several PS3 games running on PS Vita through Remote Play, this weekend CNET (linked above) reports on how to get many PSP games (that [Register or Login to view links] on PSN yet) to run on the PlayStation Vita handheld as well.

Below are the details, to quote: "Sony says the list of backward-compatible games will continue to grow, but why wait? There are actually plenty of other PSP games you can play on your PS Vita right now, but you'll need a PS3 to make it happen. They may not be listed on Sony's backward-compatibility list, but they certainly work.

So, here's the trick, which has been discussed on many message boards: while you can browse the PS Store to see what older downloadable PSP content is available for purchase or redownload, you're not getting the full picture of the whole PSP catalog. Instead, browse your download list via Transaction Management on your PSN account on the PlayStation 3, and download any PSP games. The PS3 will store PSP games and allow a PSP- or, a Vita- to sync the content.

Connect your PS Vita to the PS3 via USB cable...

139w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Rey Gutierrez is here with the new PS3 and PSN releases for the coming week today, as follows:

The Sly Collection arrives this week on PSN, where we give you the sweet option of downloading the amazing trilogy together, or each Sly game individually, all in stereoscopic 3D. Before the DragonZord and White TigerZord dominated afternoon television in the 90′s, there was Voltron in the 80′s.

This Mighty Morphing Power Rangers fan is envious of the Voltron game hitting PSN this week. Even more classics return to glory on PSone and PS2, and Modern Warfare 2 and De Blob 2 evolve into a full digital downloads.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus - Only one thing can make a thieving raccoon better at his job, and that's the long-lost Thievious Racoonus, a collected work of thieving knowledge.

Split into ten pieces, the writings are spread across the world, and it's up to one young raccoon, Sly Cooper, to track them all down. Angered security guards, searchlights, and lasers are just a few of the obstacles Sly will have to confront, but luckily he's got binoculars, swords, daggers, and all sorts of other fun stuff.

142w ago - Aksys Games Director of Production Frank "Bo" DeWindt has announced that Fate / Extra hits the Sony PSP and PSPgo handheld consoles today.

To quote: Fate. Destiny. A pre-destined future. Call it what you will, but fans of the highly successful Type-Moon franchise will come flocking at the mere mention of the word.

To those not quite as familiar with the Fate series or all things Type-Moon, we'd like to present to you an excellent entry point into the universe in the form of the exclusive PSP title Fate/EXTRA!

In this role-playing game you'll assume the role of a male or female protagonist as you pair up with one of three mystical and mysterious servants to aide you on your quest.

Saber: A class known for its well-balanced abilities and its superior swordsmanship. While Saber may be short in stature at a diminutive 4'9", her strength and skill with a sword make her worthy of the Saber-class designation.

Archer: A class that specializes in the use of ranged weapons such as bows. An enigmatic warrior clad in a scarlet coat who possesses the ability to excel at weapons other than the bow...

Caster: A class that excels at magic-based combat due to their superior intelligence, though at the cost of being woefully inadequate...

PSP Games Mountable on PS3 Reports Snowydew of Gitbrew

650°
149w ago - A year back we reported news of launching PSP games on a PS3 from Russian hacker GamerSuper, and today PlayStation 3 hacker [Register or Login to view links] of Gitbrew confirms that PSP games are indeed mountable on PS3 but notes that only some are actually playable.

Below are some relevant Tweets from him on mounting Loco Roco (pictured below) for PSP on the PS3, and as always we will update this article as more details surface:

  • Yes psp games ARE mountable, but some are not playable. I'll try lumines to see if it works though.
  • rar the directories if you can and send it to "snowy" on the gitbrew irc, when i wake up i'll have a look
  • Games to be run on it. Time to look towards the psone classics then, that or lets see if i can mount actual psone games. This shall be fun
  • The loco roco i used was from a umd, not psn related. From the documentation i've been reading, it would require heavy modification for psp
  • I need the psn versions sadly , already installed is what i need / specific files that are in the directory.
  • The reason i say that, is because i own these copies. Hardcopies / psone discs and psn /ps3 installed...

PS3Index Now Includes PS3, PSP and PSN Games in Database

850°
165w ago - Huge update today making [Register or Login to view links] imho look less crappy. You can now view a large database of PS3, PSP and PSN games, including these fields:

  • Title ID
  • Title
  • PSP System Version
  • Release Name
  • Release Number
  • ISO Size
  • ISO CRC

Still looking for people to submit PS3 games (I was having a problem with it recently). You can use the online submission [Register or Login to view links] ([Register or Login to view links]) or use the windows application [Register or Login to view links] to do so.

A dedicated page lists every update published for PS3 games ([Register or Login to view links]) and you can search for the games title id that you need updates for.

Game updates are also available directly from the PS3 database viewer itself.

I'm looking at getting a devkit soon so that I can start making PS3 based applications. One that I would be looking forward to is the dumping of verification data from retail disks. The idea would be that the verification data could be retrieved from online, and used to ensure backups are 100% the same as the original - kind of like abgx does for certain parts...
