Sony Goes Hands On with The Last of Us Remastered on PS4

9w ago - Sony Social Media Senior Manager Sid Shuman goes hands-on today with The Last of Us Remastered PS4 on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: With [Register or Login to view links]'s PS4 release just weeks away (July 29th), I dove into a pre-release version of the game to see exactly how Naughty Dog is leveraging PS4's hardware to upgrade last year's biggest Game of the Year winner.

First, there's the immediately noticeable bump in native screen resolution. The jump from 720p (PS3) to native 1080p (PS4) gives the visuals a major shot in the arm. The crisp new presentation banishes those nasty jaggies to the margins, while higher resolution environment textures adorn the lovingly crafted post-apocalyptic environments.

But the kicker is the new framerate. I'll admit to being at least a bit skeptical on hearing that Naughty Dog would target a smoother, more fluid 60 frames per second for The Last of Us Remastered. I wondered whether it would add a distracting layer of artificiality, that it might somehow interfere with the game's cinematic look and feel.

Luckily, based on my hands-on experiences at a recent media event in New York City, those concerns...

Video: Hands-on with The Order: 1886 PS4 on PlayStation 4

16w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with a PS4 video showcasing The Order: 1886 on PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: Sir Galahad stands with his back against a pillar, gunfire peppering his cover from the balcony above. I blink. For a moment, I've forgotten that The Order: 1886 on PS4 is running in front of me, and control has already shifted back to the DualShock 4 in my hands.

There is no camera crew following the brave knight through the besieged streets of London. There is only the highly cinematic third-person shooter that Ready At Dawn Studios has crafted from its own interpretation of Arthurian lore.

Dozens of details contribute to The Order's palpable realness. Every action taken and word spoken has been captured by actors. Coats flutter as the knights stride down alleyways and through dimly lit houses. Lamps collect dirt and flicker on countertops, nearly forgotten. Dogs bark in the distance between the sound of combat. The Order: 1886 puts the player squarely in the center of this conflict.

As Galahad moves through London in an effort to suppress threats to the crown, many of his actions are interactive. Players can snatch up a discarded map and turn it over with...

Destiny on PS4: First PlayStation 4 Hands-on Details Revealed

21w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Sid Shuman went hands-on today with Destiny on PS4, revealing the first PlayStation 4 details below.

To quote: Having spend several hours with a pre-release version of Destiny on PS4, my sense is that Bungie's vision is no less than a complete rethink of how multiplayer shooters work.

Destiny is a deconstruction and reconstruction of a genre that has languished in sterile matchmaking lobbies for far too long.

If you don't have a particular agenda, Patrol is a good place to start. The Patrol structure is deliberately relaxed and freewheeling, with locations covering a large swath of exterior and interior spaces.

You can hunt for beacons to trigger side missions, or just blast enemies, collect loot, and explore at your own pace. Patrol missions seem to vary considerably, tasking you with everything from collecting uranium to interrupting mining operations and assassinating enemy leaders.

From time to time you'll cross paths with other Patrol players, sometimes in the form of dynamic "social events" that pit you against a bigger challenge.

It's always optional: Tag along with the new guy, or hop...

Video: Watch_Dogs on PS4: Hands-on on PlayStation 4, Details

200°
21w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements goes hands-on today with Watch_Dogs on PS4 with the latest PlayStation 4 details below!

To quote: Watch_Dogs will rewire the way open-world games are played. A near-future Chicago, teeming with criminal intent, serves as a playground, weapon, and resource in one interconnected latticework of data.

And at the heart of it all stands Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker with a painful history. Within the first few hours of Watch_Dogs on PS4, Aiden's story of revenge has enough potential to match the anticipation the gaming community has leveled at it.

At the beginning of Watch_Dogs, Aiden earns his money through digital thievery, syphoning funds away from the unsuspecting masses without lifting a finger to harm them. But one job goes south and Aiden robs the wrong people, leading to the tragic death of his niece.

Players take control of the action after six year-old Lena Pearce has been buried and mourned. The hacker has accelerated his efforts to find her killer, and that chase has led him to a hit man under May Stadium. As thunderous cheers roar above them, Aiden interrogates the killer and gets one step closer to unraveling the underground powers moving against him.

Watch_Dogs revolves around hacking. Aiden uses it to...

Sony Goes Hands-on with MLB 14 The Show on PS4 / PlayStation 4

24w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with MLB 14 The Show PS4 on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Big and small. Those two words best describe the visual improvements San Diego Studio has implemented in MLB 14 The Show on PS4. From the detailed stitching and fabric of a glove to the 4x texture resolution of entire stadiums, the team has pushed itself - and PS4 - to create an unrivaled experience in baseball.

The PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show boasts plenty of obvious enhancements over its feature-rich, PS3 counterpart. Players look better even at a glance, with uniforms and helmets that wrinkle and flash under the grace of a new lighting model.

While stadium crowds in the PS3 version were made up of about 40 different models, the PS4 version hosts 1,000 individual models in varying clothing and gear - and each model has approximately the same number of polygons as the actual players did on PS3.

The list goes on. Individual blades of grass provide a subtle accent against a player's shoe. Stubble grows on his cheek. These details, big and small, push the PS4 version ever closer to visual parity with a game broadcast on television.

For those that haven't played the PS3 version yet, MLB 14 The Show brings a litany of new features...
