94w ago - Following the recent 4.30 DEX Warning, this weekend DemonHades reports that Team Mate (via [Register or Login to view links]) have now leaked the Sony PS3 Debug / Test (DEX) Firmware 4.25 update which has been confirmed working by several Spanish PlayStation 3 developers.

Sony PS3 Debug / Test (DEX) Firmware 1.01 & 1.02 Updates Surface

103w ago - Following up on the PS3 DEX Firmware 4.20 updates, I've now gotten all the Sony PS3 Debug / Test Firmware versions not currently in the Downloads section and will upload them as time permits beginning with versions 1.01 and 1.02 below for collectors.

As always, keep in mind these PUP updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so they are intended for examination and comparison purposes only.

We have 100% confirmed that running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)

111w ago - Last week Sony released PS3 Firmware 4.20, and today they have announced via Twitter that PlayStation 3 System Software version 4.21 is incoming with details below.

Currently it is an optional (non-mandatory) PS3 update, and below is what Sony stated in their Tweet on the revision, to quote:

"PS3 system software update 4.21 will be released soon. It's a minor, optional update that improves software stability."

Tomorrow we will be releasing a new system software update (v4.20) for PlayStation 3 which will include a few minor updates in order to strengthen functionality and improve your overall experience.

As mentioned in our previous blog post, system software update (v4.10) added a feature that enabled you to hear your own voice through the Wireless Stereo Headset when playing multiplayer modes. This type of audio feedback is known as "sidetone."

Based on your comments, system software update (v4.20) will improve sidetone audio performance by giving you the option to select one out of five levels for microphone audio, or turn the feature off completely.

131w ago - Following up on the previous leak, this weekend the Sony PS3 Debug / Test Firmware 4.10 update has surfaced for both PlayStation 3 collectors and developers from an anonymous source.
