167w ago - Today garyopa at PSX-Scene.com (linked above) reports that Sony appears to be targeting the PS JailBreak, PSFreedom and PSGroove related PS3 hacks and has shared numerous court documents for those interested.
From one of the documents, to quote: "Similarly targeted document subpoenas or deposition notices to any other third party who SCEA learns may be involved in the distribution or sale of the PS Jailbreak software, known as, for example, PSGroove, OpenPSJailbreak, and PSFreedom, or who may have knowledge of the distribution or sale of this illicit software."
PS3 hacker Mathieulh is also mentioned in one of the documents as recently proclaiming to be one of 20 individuals behind PSGroove, to quote: "Mathieu Hervais told BBC News he was one of about 20 hackers involved in PSGroove's development."
Just under a month ago Sony was granted an injunction by Australian Courts on the sale of PSJailBreak PS3 modchips, followed by blocking PS JailBreak and PS3 proxy...
167w ago - Today French site PS3Gen.fr (linked above) reports news of a project RichDevX is working on where a PSGroove payload is utilized for examining PS3 Service Mode.
To quote, roughly translated: "RichDevX tells us about his progress with his playload to put the PlayStation 3 in service mode and recently released two snapshots of progress.
It is indeed working on a payload to get the console into service mode and be able to launch a file. Choke on every boot via a USB key and others.
As shown in this first image, we can see the red box on the XMB showing that the console actually went into service mode. In this mode, it is possible to run specific software, including one allowing the downgrade (the opposite of update, ie back to a previous firmware).
OtherOS who says so says downgrade option of going back 3.15 for benefit of OtherOS plus most of the hack with PSGroove.
Payload through this, it is also possible to run each time you start the console, loading a file. Self from a USB key as explained above. This could allow the hack using only one time a dongle or other, then your USB stick could complete the task alone. Advances in the underground world push the limits even further, watch this."
Finally, those who haven't heard about the PlayStation...
170w ago - Today PuppetMaster reports that drk||Raziel has just announced he is working on porting NullDC and PCSX2 to Sony's PS3 entertainment system.
For those unaware, NullDC is a DreamCast emulator and PCSX2 is a PS2 emulator, with the official news update below, to quote:
"Well, sometimes you just can't get free from your projects as easily as you want to. So, seeing as there wasn't much interest in nulldc's source I started to work at it again ! (And yes, of course it will remain open source).
So, I'm officially again working on nullDC! There's a bank of ideas on the wiki on what I plan to do. We're also planning to get the project side back up and stuff.
Leaving that aside, I'd also like to ask for donations. The project hasn't really asked for donations so far (except specific cases, like the Pandora port that required hardware to be brought). As I'm running quite low on money I'll open up donations for the project.
Donated money will be used for: Getting a ps3, porting/working on nullDC/pcsx2 for ps3, getting a jtag'd xbox to port stuff to it, and finally to pay for server/misc hardware fees."
