170w ago - Just under a week ago we reported on news of a successful PS3 downgrade from 3.55 to 3.41 Firmware, however, it ended up not being reproducible until a PS3 3.55 to 3.41 Firmware Downgrader arrived today courtesy of solidpsycho through a guide from AmazingLarry.

Download: Lv2diag_355 / PS3 3.55 Downgrade (3.41)

To quote: Here is a patched 3.41 that allows you to downgrade. I patched the info0 to 356, and I also used Warrens method to bypass the br drive during the update. I have tested this on both of my PS3's and haven't run into any problems.

3.55 Downgrade has been confirmed on both FAT and SLIM consoles.

Please note you CANNOT use these files if you bought a PS3 that came stock with FW 3.50. DO NOT DO IT. STOP NOW.

171w ago - Update: KaKaRoToKS has now confirmed that the PS3 3.55 downgrade is no longer possible, tweeting the following: "sad news.. downgrade worked, but not reliable, only works with one of Xtse's ps3s, but can't reproduce it.. I'm going to look for another way. nope, it only works on one machine, even if same model, it doesn't work on it. No idea what's different about it..."

Today KaKaRoToKS has confirmed via Twitter news of PS3 downgrade success from version 3.55 to 3.41 PlayStation 3 Firmware.

This confirmation comes just days since his PS3 Custom Firmware surfaced and under a month after the PSGrade free PS3 Downgrading hex codes arrived for version 3.5 and below consoles, followed by Sony revoking lv2diag.self file_1 and patching PS3 downgrading in the PS3 Firmware 3.55 update.

Here is his Tweet, to quote: "First downgrade from 3.55 to 3.41 successful, Thanks to Xtse! Method not yet ready for the masses...

Convert PS3 Demo / Kiosk to Retail - No Downgrades or Reinstalls

700°
172w ago - Here is the fastest possible way of converting a Kiosk/Demo PS3 to a fully functional retail PS3. Tested on the Kiosk/Demo PS3 I received recently.

I was going to dump it's vsh & dev_flash2 but apparently something messed up and it failed. Good thing I have a second Kiosk PS3.

Previous methods required PS3 downgrading, installing Acid CFW and of course there is always the PS3 Demo Unlock Codes.

Before starting, download the vsh.rar along with a copy of Comgenie's Awesome FileManager, Waninkoko's Free Flash, and the Kiosk HEX payloads.

NOTE: The attached...

PSGrade - PS3 Downgrading, Master Key and Hex Codes Arrive!

176w ago - Update: According to several members (including jensen76, evilsperm, and sk group) when you downgrade a PS3 with the Modified 3.41 PUP (below), it currently cripples the Blu-ray player functionality. Some additional PS3 Blu-ray fix updates are outlined HERE, however, a more stable solution is still being worked on.

To quote from garyopa on one work-around: "I was able to restore one machine I had, by copying over all the files I had in the /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 back to the HDD, that I had saved before when it was on v3.41"

Forum member p666 also has expanded on the PS3 Blu-ray fix a bit HERE...

176w ago - As a follow-up to my PS3 Acid CFW XMB XML Hack Pack, today we are happy to announce that we have enabled more PlayStation 3 Debug options in our ongoing PS3 Acid CFW WIP project and posted a video below.

Here are the details from DeViL303 at kbx.org (linked above): As you may know, the Acid CFW project was first released on PS3News.com over a month ago by Cfwprophet, and since then its progress is going like a snowball on a big hill !!

We are working on this continously and even in last few hours Cfwprophet and myself have made some great discoveries with regard to Debug options! More news to come so watch this space for more great info about this Custom Firmware for PlayStation 3!

This is a work in progress so any help or ideas you can offer will be gratefully accepted.
