3d ago - Spry Fox Chief Creative Officer Daniel Cook made available some video footage today of the unique puzzles of Road Not Taken on PlayStation 4 below.
To quote: How might a roguelike look like if it featured a thinker and explorer, instead of a traditional warrior? If being clever was more important than being strong? That's a design challenge we've attempted to tackle with Road Not Taken.
You play a ranger in a frigid, enchanted forest, trying to save lost children. You start with a few easy-to-learn abilities. You can pick up any adjacent objects, you can carry them around, and you can throw them.
Trees, boulders, bears - they all float at your command. But you need to be careful; whenever you carry things, it costs you stamina. If you run out of stamina, you collapse face-first into the snow. No checkpoints, no reloads. It's over.
The Environment is the Threat
In Road Not Taken, both the challenge and the exciting moments come from the setting itself. You'll be intrigued by strange objects that you haven't encountered before, and whose characteristics are never fully explained. There are wild creatures running about, spiky plants that hurt you if you pick them up, and blizzards...
3d ago - Half of Ivent Games' Lyubomir Iliev announced that Strength of the Sword 3 is out today on PlayStation 3 with a fresh video trailer below.
To quote: Helloeveryone - Ivent Games here to announce that Strength of the Sword 3 is out today on PS3! I know you've never heard of us before, so I think an introduction is in order.
We're a tiny, indie team, comprised of just two people: me (Lyubomir Iliev) and my friend and colleague Georgi Rakidov.
For the past five years we've been hard at work on developing our first project: Strength of the Sword 3. It's a downloadable, challenge-driven sword fighting game exclusive to PS3. In it, you take control of a mechanical knight sent from the heavens to battle a rising evil that has swept the land... and that's pretty much all the story we're going to give you. Yeah.
But this isn't a game about story. This is a game about CHALLENGE! It's very old-school in that regard. It's the kind of game you "beat" instead of just "finish."
Strength of the Sword 3 has quite a different kind of combat system that combines action, strategy, and management challenges, centered on three types of resources and their offensive/defensive uses.
3d ago - IGN Senior Editor Colin Moriarty announced today that the IGN PlayStation application is out today on PS4.
Below are the details, to quote: Greetings once again, PlayStation.Blog! My name's Colin, IGN's Senior Editor.
You may have seen me skulking around IGN PlayStation and making terrible predictions on Podcast Beyond, but today, I'm not here to make any pizza bets with you. No, I'm here to tell you about something exciting we've cooked up for PS4 owners.
IGN for PlayStation, our new app for PS4, is available today, and I'm pleased to tell you that you can download it for yourself - free of charge - when PlayStation Store updates. The app is currently exclusive to PS4, and will come to PS3 and PS Vita next year.
How does this benefit you, exactly? IGN's PS4 app will make you more popular with your friends, give you more energy, and even make the food you eat taste better (that's not true). But more importantly, our PS4 app will give you direct access to all of IGN's video content, letting you create custom playlists, while finding and consuming the exact content you're seeking.
What's truly cool about the app, however, is how granular you can get with it. You can rapidly come in and out of full-screen view, minimize a video...
