Sony Interested in Offering Downloadable PS2 Titles on PS3

293w ago - Just under a week ago this rumor surfaced, and today Sony Computer Entertainment of America's senior marketing manager John Kohler stated that the company is indeed interested in providing downloadable PlayStation 2 titles on the PlayStation 3 console.

He also went on to reiterate that using a larger 3rd-party hard drive on the PS3 is encouraged, and will not void the warranty in the interview as follows:

Let's talk more about that. I'd love to download my favorite PS2 games onto my PS3's hard drive so I don't have to worry about finding the discs. Will Sony ever provide downloadable PS2 games to play on the PS3?

We're still sorting through that. We're absolutely interested, but there are some technical hurdles there that we have to overcome first. But this is something that we're absolutely interested in. You make good points, there are a lot of people who would be interested in playing the strongest PS2 games on their PS3. Nothing's imminent on that, but it's something we are interested in as well.

With the release of the 160GB PlayStation 3 bundle, is storage space becoming less of an issue for the PS3? I recently installed a 500GB drive in my PS3 and I couldn't...
 

SCEE Offering 50,000 GBP for PlayStation Network Prototypes

295w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe launched a competition today where development studios are invited to submit prototypes for a chance to win 10,000 GBP awarded to the five selected, totaling £50,000.

To quote: Sony is to launch the Get in the Game project tonight, offering five developers the chance to receive GBP 10,000 to prototype new content for the PlayStation Network.

The company will be holding a free workshop in December to provide better insight into working with the format holder, with attendees invited to pitch ideas to a panel of Sony execs and producers.

The panel will then select five companies to receive the GBP 10,000 to prototype their ideas over the first three months of 2009. Prototypes will then be shown to Sony Europe with the possibility of going into full production.

The competition is in conjunction with Northwest Vision and Media and is designed to support the games industry in the Northwest region.
 

Wal-mart Offering $100 Gift Card with 80GB PS3 this Saturday

298w ago - Wal-Mart will be offering several in-store deals on electronic items on Saturday, November 8th.

Topping the list, they are offering an 80GB PlayStation 3 (likely not backwards-compatible unless from old stock) for $399 with a $100 Gift Card.

They also have an online Nintendo DS Lite Holiday Value Bundle for $149 which includes: Your choice of Nintendo DS Lite, your choice of two (2) DS games and a Princess Peach or Mario accessory tin kit.

Finally, they are offering the Ratchet & Clank PSP-3000 bundle and PS2 console, both of which include a $30 gift card.

SCEE offering refunds for the wrong CoD4 Region Map Pack

326w ago - SCEE are offering refunds to those who bought the wrong version of the Region-locked Variety Map Pack.

SCEE say they have updated their call centers on how to handle this and they hope this "clarifies the steps that SCEE are taking to ensure the consumer has a successful and enjoyable experience with the map packs."

To quote: The Store has been updated so that each product states which BLES code it works with.

Furthermore, the forums have been updated to explain how the download works. The call centres have also been updated about how to handle this.

The Store team are refunding those who have the wrong match.

I hope this clarifies the steps that SCEE are taking to ensure the consumer has a successful and enjoyable experience with the map packs.
