Netflix is Streaming its Way to Canada Today on PlayStation 3

209w ago - Public Relations Specialist Ashley Beaulac at Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has revealed that beginning today Netflix is streaming its way to Canadian PlayStation 3 users.

To quote: For those of you who don't know what Netflix is, it's the leading internet movie subscription service, which basically means that all of us Canadians can now watch an unlimited amount of movies and TV episodes for $7.99 a month.

Now your PlayStation 3 is able to stream from Netflix right to your TV, letting you chose from thousands of movie and TV episodes; watch as much as you want, whenever you want.

To get started simply look for the Netflix icon under the video icon in your XMB (cross media bar).

For all our friends in the US and current Netflix members, you'll have to continue using the instant streaming disc for your PS3 system until the Netflix application icon becomes available for you in October.

For all our French speaking friends, Netflix intends to add French language capability over time.

Netflix Adds Search Functionality on Sony's PlayStation 3

217w ago - Recently we reported that Netflix will be going discless on the PS3 by October, but today JoyStiq (linked above) revealed that Netflix also offers PlayStation 3 users the ability to search through their entire video library.

To quote: "Netflix just became a lot easier to use on the PS3. No, you still need a disc (for now), but the application has been stealthily upgraded with the ability to search for and watch videos from the entire Instant library.

For example, typing the letter "A" quickly revealed Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Unfortunately, the Xbox Live and Wii versions of Netflix don't appear to have been updated with this feature yet. Xbox owners will have to wait until November."

CEO Confirms Netflix to Go Discless on PS3 by October, 2010

218w ago - According to IGN (linked above), CEO Reed Hastings has confirmed previous reports that Netflix streaming will be going discless by October, 2010.

What this means is simply that the Netflix Instant Streaming Disc for PlayStation 3 will no longer be necessary to use the service for watching TV episodes and movies via the PS3.

To quote: "PlayStation 3 Netflix users will soon be able to use the service without having to insert a disc into their console each and every time.

Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements, he said."

245w ago - Update: NetFlix has finally shipping out the instant streaming discs for Wii owners. In order to request the disc, you have to log onto the official NetFlix Web site.

After many rumors, today the [Register or Login to view links] has officially confirmed that online movie rental service Netflix will be expanding to the Nintendo Wii console this Spring.

Considering the Wii's small internal memory, it should come as no surprise that this service will require an [Register or Login to view links] in the Wii each time someone wants to watch a movie, just like the PS3.

But while it's speculated that the PS3 will be getting an onboard solution to this problem, the same shouldn't be expected for Nintendo's console.

To quote: "The real winner in this? Netflix, of course. The online rental company has become quite ubiquitous these days. Even now I'm sure that a strong majority of our readership has a little red envelope either ready to be watched or sealed and ready for the long journey back home to the nearest Netflix shipping center.
